Hey peeps, the next Turnip28 KS launches on the 28th of this month

Focused on cavalry models and a dragon (STLs and probably print on demand, like last time for infantry) and 6 new factions, bringing the faction cult to a whopping 26.

Don't be fooled by the zany setting, this is probably the best platoon-ish scale ruleset I've played.

Looks cool, but I'm still not convinced Turnip is a real game anyone has actually played. The internet is abuzz with cool indie games blowing up, but as far as I can tell none of them make it to my local scene.

It's a very good ruleset that I've not only played, I'm holding an international tournament next year. But it has to be said that the barrier to entry, at least the perceived barrier to entry, is truly overwhelming when the typical unit you see online is kitbashed from a dozen different kits and 50% green stuff, so Turnip is the fringe of the fringe. Even most of my gaming buds say "I would love to get into it, but it's above my hobby skill level". That's why I'm really happy to see a KS for ready made, official (but very optional) sculpts despite having no need for them myself.

Should it not be miniature agnostic then?

Appreciate the reply, and big props for organizing your gaming! I agree that 'official' models certainly helps with the barrier to entry. I have to admit, if I'm going to fall down the conversion-heavy alt game setting rabbit hole, I'm much more likely to whip up some Last War bands with that new starter box I just received than a squad-sized game like Turnip.

Turnip is definitely growing on me. I backed the last KS just for the random bits even though I don't have a 3D printer. I'll likely back this one as well.

The News and Rumors section is all about surprises. I'd certainly hate it if we got 100 posts saying "I know something you don't know..." - malfred

Last War's really cool too, we have a nice table for it

I love the idea of Turnip. I just subscribed to the Patreon, in fact. But I don't have the time, inclination, or skill, to kit bash a cult so having an official option of suitably Turnip-y bods is a massive benefit for me

So... hmm.

There's been multiple conventions in multiple countries, and its not going away... it reminds me of Mordheim; a small, active, passionate fanbase.

If you want a local scene, chances are theres going to be someone willing to be involved, and it won't take a lot to give that push - the main issue with the game is that everybody converts everything to be what they want it to be ("Meet my Napoleonic men let by Fish captains with Man-mounted fishman cavalry!")

What I'd also say is Turnip is very much a British style wargame - no tournament friendly balanced cults here, no no. Why have that when you can have a frog dressed as a rabbit. For a lot of people, theres nothing more un-fun then picking an bad army. But for a lot of people, picking a bad army is bags of fun...

Lastly, the creator is super active with his community - far more then I'd say then just about any other of these 'indie games'. You can finding him playing the game on tabletop simulator on his discord most weeks with a member of the community, and getting feedback on new cults and ideas.
