Subject: 28mm Firefight being replaced by Epic?

This was just background discussion from a YouTuber, I cannot even recall which one - that epic Warpath will replace the larger scaled version that is currently out, with a focus shifting to 28mm skirmish.
But does this hold any whisper of truth? Or is the future of 28mm Firefight unknown (or even secured just fine)?

Not Firefight, Warpath. The one with multibases.

Come to think of it, this is a good testament of Mantic listening to community. In 2015, they ran a Kickstarter for Warpath, their mass battle sci-fi system, where they tried to push the mass battle aspect so hard they introduced multibases - basically tried to do 28mm Epic, with stands of 5 dudes. Players rioted and Mantic split the game into Warpath (multibased) and Firefight (individual based) and gave out both rulebooks in the basic pledge. Now Firefight is on its second edition and Warpath has been axed and replaced with a 10mm version, as it should be from the start

Mantic originally launched Warpath in 2011, and 14 years later the game will finally be released in a way that makes sense while Firefight is closer to what Mantic probably should have released in 2011 for the size of the range at the time.
I like the spectacle of large armies though.

I will be honest I cannot wait for Epic Warpath. The wind has absolutely dropped out of the sails of Legions Imperialis locally. People are still buying the minis but don't seem to be playing the game, which I think says a lot about the rules and playability of that game.
So something that is accessible, in a way that Legions is not, and can be played easily on a week night (in a couple of hours) when you are knackered from work will hopefully be popular.

Local playtesters are very happy with Epic Warpath, but do warn that it gets unwieldy above 1500 pts. 2 months of radio silence after announcing a delay doesn't look good tho. Maybe they missed a production window or something?

I would honestly rather wait and for them to produce a better game or miniatures.
But it does sound like the comms could be better as we approach May. Perhaps Salute will produce some more news?

Perhaps due to the activation system? just curious, the game is problably DoA locally.

Yea, they say alternating gets pretty tedious when you reach 20 units.
Armoured Clash did this part better by making unit size scale with game size.

How many units is 1500 points? I would hope that a game that is built around "Epic" battles would be able to handle large games.

I'll try to translate their review verbatim:
"We both think 1500 is the upper limit that's worth playing, we had 14 and 12 activations and played almost 4 hours (with lots of looking up rules)
Scenario generation again surprised us positively, the combination of 4 elements really makes each game unique.
List building is interesting, with just the right amount of restrictions, and stratagems of 5-30 pts that let you round out the points."

Thanks, That's good to know. I figured pretty early on that this wasn't the game for me, but I can't help being intrigued and following along. I assume 14 activations means you have 14 units per side?
4 hours seems like a long time, and looking up alot of rules is not my cup-of-tea, but maybe that's just due to unfamiliarity with the rules?

Certainly, it was their 2nd or maybe 3rd game
But it uses something like the old Epic order structure, so definitely slower than Armoured Clash even at the best of times
If it's not good, I'm sure OPR will be along shortly to pick up all these new sub 10mm model ranges.

This is absolutely the worst thing I could have read about the game. It's my main beef with LI - the game is too laborious to play, takes too long and has too many granular rules that mean you are stood there with a rulebook.
Was hoping Epic Warpath would follow a similar route to all (?) of Mantic's other games and provide a quick and clean ruleset that lets you focus on tactics. Obviously going to wait for further reviews and check it out myself but that's a very disappointing first impression to read.

oh man, this makes me nervous. Armoured Clash we love but it takes a looooonnnnnnnng time if you have to look up rules or suffer from a bit of tactical analysis paralysis. I don't want two games in my rotation that eat up
a day off like that , I was hoping for fast and simple here. I too will see how it shakes out but not good news, not good at all.
