a vehicle can move in any direction, even zig zag if it wants, but only has to pay to pivot if it actually changes its facing during that move?
i can move a rhino its full move distance sideways so long as it doesnt change facing anywhere along the move?
am i reading the rules correctly?

Zig zagging and drifting sideways doesn’t let you exploit pivots to get extra inches of movement. Even though they break immersion for tracked/wheeled vehicles.
Another reason to like grav/hover tanks.

Right there with you. But they will serve besides the new guys.
And against my Eldar, who are big on the grav tanks.

Tracked vehicles are just a fancy way of saying, 'I like to play in the mud!'
Meanwhile, I’ll be over here sipping tea in my towering mech, casually crushing your Land Raiders like they're made of cardboard.
Cheers!"
