Diamond owes a lot to Army Painter, Catalyst Game Labs, and Hasbro...

I had always heard horror stories about their business practices and how they treated vendors/shops. Looks like it finally caught up to them.

Sucks that a Maryland(my home state!) based business is going under, but from everything I heard, its like they did it to themselves. Seems like Diamond thought they could do what they want as they were the top dog.

Luckily in my industry, third party distributors are a dream to work with, as there is no monopoly(yet) so if one falters or changes to a point where they are less business friendly, I can replace them and they know it.

Well, Geppi unilaterally decided to shut down the entire comics industry at the beginning of the pandemic with no notice to either his customers (the stores) or providers (comic book manufacturers). I fully agree that changes needed to be made in how they were operating given the pandemic but the way he went about it along with the hubris accompanying his decision was the beginning of the end for Diamond.

Bad news for Army painter unless they have some kind of insurance in place. Wonder if Catalyst can absorb that kind of loss ($400k).

Universal will be buying them (unless someone else beats the stalking horse bid), so those debts will be paid still. There might be a bit of a haircut on the total amount each creditor gets as the bid is about 20% less than what Diamond owes, but it's also just for the Alliance side of the business, so there will likely be further money changing hands for the comics side of things.

It might slow down the ambitious release schedule of new ForcePacks that they have planned for this year for BattleTech (that were not a part of the Mercenaries Kickstarter) along with some of their non-BattleTech games, but the $12 million that they brought in from the Kickstarter last year should help them if they do take that kind of loss.

Yeah, this is actually pretty bad news for the average gamer even if we did not really like them that much.
