DevCents have three melee attacks, actually hitting worse than a normal Marine on a 4+.
But they are S5 AP-1 D2. I get the boosted strength-but why the better AP and damage?
Especially when Crisis Suits and Wraithguard (at least the index ones-haven’t seen the codex yet) are only AP0 D1.
What other examples of big shooty units are out there with boosted AP and Damage?

Don't they have power fists of some kind?
|
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

Nope. Just gun barrels and Marine fists.
The Assault version have Siege Drills, which are pretty brutal.

They do have some sort of primitive power fist type of glove on, and the heavy weapons are underslung like Calgar's or Aggressors.

Those fists are huge, and probably built for combat.
Closest comp for the OP's question: Obliterators.

Ah, Oblits. How did I forget those?
They originated with Power Fists, much to the chagrin of Mutilators.

I wonder if they came out around the same time and were thus parallels of each other.

Makes me wonder if we will get a pre-chaos Obliterator in HH... you know, before they look like they were sprayed with adhesive and dumped into a giant bucket labeled, "guns."

Obliterators were first, coming out in the 3rd ed chaos codex with a bunch of terrible metal models that were terminator esque.
The next edition of metal ones were much larger but still terminators in design.
Then GW released the stupidest space marine model ever - the centurions* - and the next edition of plastic obliterators riffed on the design aesthetics of those a lot more (like the dreadesque feet).
*if they had just decided to put a dread sarcophagus in them instead of a person it would have looked a lot better - they have more veterans than dreadnought chassis so the centurion was a killa kan equivalent replacement to ensure they could get them out into battle. But no we got the dumb crossarmed marine tonka suits...

Unlikely. The Obliterator Virus doesn't seem to have appeared until after the Heresy and the Traitors were cowering in the Eye of Terror.

Not exactly true, the Obliterator origins has been shown to be created at the time of the Heresy via Volk when he was possessed by the Daemon Sa'ra'am. Presumably he is what started it to spread amongst other marines in the Traitor Legions.
