Well, without xenos the game would start with massacring hordes of normal humans (cultists, guard) in the most brutal fashion - that's not really appealing to the mass market.
So you've missed the Horus Heresy being a thing in the model world; and Borderlands and honestly MOST shooters that are focused on killing more humans and humaoids.
'Killing' is one thing. Slaughtering ordinary humans in special cinematic finishing moves with chainswords and heads, limbs and intestines flying around is something else. Borderlands is a comic game and shooters aren't usually that explicit. Space Marine is.
And I play Horus Heresy. So?. Tell me more about what I've missed. And what it has to do with the game.
Space Marine is about slaying weak troops and minor bosses en masse, with some heavy hitters at some points. What do you think those non-Xenos goons should be?
