I was looking at the Stormraven yesterday and realized that all the flyers are piloted by first born Space Marines...

Will GW eventually release new kits to incorporate larger marine pilots?

Or will they slap closed cockpits on them and call it a day?

Don't know for sure, but apparently Space Wolves are losing their fliers in their new Codex...

I think, they'd rather put the cat back in the bag and quietly dispose of it tbh. It probably won't stop them making more, but fliers really don't fit atm.

Agree.

The rules have never been great, always felt like they were kludged onto the wrong scale. I suspect we’ll be will see a slow transfer to legends, and quiet fade from 40k.

They won't do either. Remember, this is the model company that's too cheap to include the bottom for the Rogal Dorn....

There will be a future 'flyer edition'. The churn is ever turning.

Maybe just turn Aircraft into Skimmer-style flying tanks? I think it would work for the troopships like Corvus Blackstar and the Valkyrie... not sure if it would work for say a Marauder Bomber or Dakkajet.

Anything that can hover is easy to put in 40k. Slow and low enough to loiter over the battlefield to deliver troops or close support. Give them deep strike and/or some up/down/back to reserve rule. But when on the table? No different then a grav tank.

The stuff that can’t hover really should just be a fancy marker for off-table fire support. If GW was primarily in the games design market and not the miniatures selling market, we’d just pay points for orbital strikes and strafing runs. If you wanted to have a mini to represent a supersonic fighter, it’d be the guy with the com gear calling in the strike.

There are a lot of things I wish GW never added to the game. Now that they are here, it’s hard to get rid of them without a lot of feel bads. Which I get. I don’t want the guy with the lovely air cav army to be taken out back and sunseted. A quiet transition to legends is probably the best way to remove them from the game.

Exactly what Nevelon said. Basically, you can make flyers that feel like "helicoptors" work. But the ones that are supposed to be jets just feel really out of place.

Consider eldar/dark eldar skimmer vehicles. Those are capable of actual flight. Iirc, the enclosed craftworld tanks are even capable of traveling into space and back. But they work on the tabletop because it's understood that they can slow down in order to stay low (hiding behind terrain) and maneuver around obstacles. But something like the crimson hunter or voidraven? Those things are supposed to be moving *fast*. All the time. The only way to keep them on the tabletop, even allowing for some weird scale abstraction, is to have them doing donuts around the apartment building in the middle of the table all game.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
