Contrast style of paints are not my core way of painting I use those contrasts more as a subtle diluted wash on some limited specific areas but for the most part I use the core acrylic ranges to do most of my painting and oil washes for intense recess painting or dark weathering etc.

Its good theres more options on the market but Im covered with contrasts and xpress... I recently been having a full paint range revamp and contrast style of paints are at the bottom of my list. I find myself addicted to collecting new paints and colours but there are 284 regular pots to collect first before jumping into contrasts ranges.

I'll see what Stahy has to say, but since I've never seen an apology (or at least one that felt genuine) from AK about their previous faux pas, I doubt I will be giving them a try.

The News and Rumors section is all about surprises. I'd certainly hate it if we got 100 posts saying "I know something you don't know..." - malfred

AK Interactive QUICK GEN Dossier

The MEDIUM is a low-viscosity gel designed to maintain the properties of the formula while offering maximum performance.

This QUICK GEN medium allows the paint to glide more easily, with improved surface tension to prevent rings and stains, resulting in a uniform finish.

Right, there it is!

I also have a free professional hand-painted swatch of the entire range here: https://taleofpainters.com/2025/06/review-ak-quick-gen/

Ooh there's a British Uniform in there. That'll be handy if I ever get round to Bolt Action.

Quite curious as to what dwarves look like in AK's world - that's one hell of a vibrant orange to be a skin colour. One wonders if they also habitually wear an over-long red tie???

Battledress Brown in the Vallejo Xpress paint line would work as well. (starting at the 9:03 mark)

I'm actually incredibly disappointed that you didn't go into more detail about the reactivation problem on that orange and test the range to see how many other colours have the same issue.

Army Painter got a lot of flak from a lot of people for their reactivaton and it's sloppy as all hell for AK to let the same issue go through to production, and as my favourite paint reviewer, I feel like you've let us down by not testing the entire range. Sure - it's a time investment, but I watch and trust your reviews for a reason - that's why we go to reviewers like yourself to find out these details. Unlike YouTube reviewers, we plebs don't get the entire range provided for free and instead need to invest a significant amount of $ if we buy into the range in a large way. As one of the oinly people (along with Juan) who actually investigated the reactivation issue on the AP paints, the expectation/hope is that you'd do the same here.

More credibility = a higher bar for yourself, because I'll be honest, most YTers are pretty much shills for whoever is providing them with this episode's content for free, whether the product being "Reviewed" is paint, models, STLs or anything else.

The fact is that almost all of these AK Quick Gen paints are now a gamble, and I don't like risking either my money or even worse, my paintjobs.

Not going to lie, I gave up watching after the first 10 paints, they looked pretty much the same as other ranges of this type, just with slightly colour variations.

I concede if the remaining 70 ish colours are absolutely revolutionary but as it stands, nothing special.

Reactivation? Thats not good.

The best way to test a range is get 5 or so pots and dissect them yourself or watch someone that paints in the same away that you paint, and see how they go ( Its hard to find someone that paints like you do though).

I see amazing painters with amazing results but use techniques or tools that I dont like/Use so it's kind of pointless. Same with paint reviewers. Its a very personal thing to be honest.

Yeah, after the Army Painter fiasco, reactivation is an instant 'nope' for me.

Feedback taken! The video was already a bit on the long side. And I wasn't sure if it was really that important to people, since most are fine with Speedpaint 2.0, which also has a faint reactivation issue with a lot of colours. Once I can become a fulltime creator/paint tester, I'll do a big reactivation battle with all brands!

I mean, the reactviation issue is why AP had to completely redo their entire line, so kind of a big deal. The reactivation/discolouration on that Orange Brown after 12 hours is pretty significant - enough that I'm not willing to risk RNG to buy in on a range where that flaw was allowed to make it through - especially after the AP fiasco.

I'll also make a video once I become a fulltime paint reviewing youtuber who gets sent all the full paint ranges for free!

Like I said - I do very much appreciate the time and effort that it takes for you to make your paint review videos. Just that this one isn't as useful as any of the others in the "contrast" genre due to the
"here we have an 80 colour range of generally pretty nice paints, but some of them reactivate - and I'm not going to tell you which ones - buy them and hope you don't get unlucky!" element.
