So I went looking for the Xth edition rules for the mighty Thunderbolt (having converted a few from Ork Dakka Jets) and can't find it even in Imperial Amor or Legends. The Lightning and Avenger are still there, and the model is still sold but the rules seem gone.

Interesting, the fluff blurb of the "Voss Lightning" even mentions the "iconic thunderbolt", but it doesn't seem to be there. Maybe just take the Lightning profile instead? I'm not familiar with the equipment of the tunderbolt, though.

Wondered the same, just assembled mine. On new recruit is still a datasheet entry with a points cost, I guess it is from the pre-codex imperial armor index.

Fluff-wise the Lightning is the dog fighter, faster and more maneuverable, armed with 2x lascannons and missiles.

The Thunderbolt is the flying tank, slower, less maneuverable, better armored and armed. 4x Autocannons 2x lascannons, missiles and bombs.

I don't think the current rules have a good way to accommodate the difference, though they could just give the Lightning a better invulnerable.

For the record the Avenger is an A-10 Tank Killer, the most beloved obsolete plane this side of the F-14.

It was in the Astra Militarum PDF back when it spread across two PDFs, but got dropped from later versions, for unknown reasons.

Mine came from China this past spring.

But nothing stops you from scratch building one.
I'd start with about a 1/35 scale Mitchell/Liberator WWII bomber model.

An optimistic migh say there must be a plastic one on the way. A pessimist might say it's being Squatted.

Most likely it was a clerical error.
