Subject: A Dreadknight/Imperial Armiger Conversion Idea

OK, I've been looking for alternatives to the ugly Dreadknight model and think this might just work.
In Grey Knight lore, there is an Imperial Knight House on the forgemoon of Deimos orbiting Titan called House Steel that deploys with the Grey Knights.
I was thinking that I could use the arms from a Dreadknight and put them on an Armiger. Then make the Armiger look all Grey Knighty and use it as a Dreadknight for gameplay.
Is this a dumb idea? Or a spectacularly amazing one?

Same basic size, correct weapons? There are some people who love to get bent out of shape about counts-as, but this should check all the boxes on an appropriate sub.
Stock answer of check with your regular opponents and the TO of any event you want to bring it to.

Am I misremembering the past or did I not have to get my opponent's permission to field a cool conversion model back in the days of yore (4th-6th edition)?
I couldn't use this guy in a GW event anyways due to the 3d printed Carapace I plan on slapping on it.

Generally it’s not a formal rules-based obligation, but a courtesy.
Most people don’t have an issue with counts-as. Especially when they are still WYSWYG. Some people may get a bee in their bonnet. Normally when there are modeling for advantage issues. And the Rule of Cool covers a lot of sins.
I don’t recall there ever being a formal rule about counts-as. There might have been. Mostly that sort of things shows up in organized play/tournament packets. Not in the core rules. For most of the history of the game, conversations were encouraged.

I remember the seething anger directed at people that used to make kneeling Wraithlords.
I understand the modeling for Advantage bit. There's a guy at a local tourney who added little spacers to his Knights to make them taller. You wouldn't really notice until you put his Knights next to someone else's...
Which is exactly what happened.
And the results were... less than awesome. (Mainly as he tried to initially deny his wrongdoing).

I do have a backup plan. If this doesn't work, I can put the armiger arms back on and I will have an Armiger for an eventual House Steel support unit for a Grey Knight army.

MFA can be a legitimate argument. It can also be a strawman. There could be a hypothetical advantage in certain situations that give you an edge. But there are also times where what you did shoots yourself in the foot. They generally balance. Most of the time they are a tempest in a teapot that people argue about on the internet, but have 0 issues IRL.
Some good things to think about:
Will this give me advantages over the stock model?
Will this cause confusion for my opponent?
Could this be mistaken for something else?
The only thing this might have an issue with is the last bit. Someone sees it, and thinks”oh, this is obviously an ameger” and treats it as such, especially on planning how to deal with it. So when their plans fail, because it’s a DK, they might be a little salty. But as long you you don’t have actual amegers allied into your list, and you are clear with your opponent at the start of the game, it should be fine.

The other option is the Saturine Dreadknight.
