Hey, totally clueless on this game and wondering if the battalion box plus a box of boys/arrers is a good place to start the army with? I’m thinking I could spend a lot of time painting that, while reading up on rules and the army book and then add an HQ once it’s time to play.

Any reason to avoid this starter bundle? I know people used to say goblins are worthless and i should get night goblins instead and they boys aren’t good I should get black orcs instead. Wondering if thats still valid… I kind of think these boys, goblins, chariots, and arrers are core models that you really cant go overboard with collecting, but thats just based on the 40k boys not toys advice ive seen given. And suggestions are welcome.

Battalion box is the best value for your money for sure. To me it depends on how you wanna play. My little bro plays O&G and absolutely loves them. Most of his lists include black orcs and boar boys which if you’re wanting to play competitively - you’d focus around them.

That said - I think there is still room for the options in the battalion specifically the chariots and boys. The gobbos I’d just use as whatever flavor you want to see what you think about them before expanding into the goblin side of the army.

Old world is pretty proxy friendly so hopefully that’s not an issue where you play. But it’s a great game - the only GW game I play at the moment.

Good luck - hope you have fun!

Boyz are good after the update.

T4 4+ AS for cheap, they can tank, even strike back with choppas.

The normal goblins though... not very good.

And yes, Black orcs rock!!!

Thanks. I was doing a deep dive thru my model collection and i found my old high elves last night.

I’d like to have a couple armies, because I would like to see if any friends are interested in playing.

So if I had the battalion box w/ extra boys from the boys/arrer box, how would that stack up points wise vs.

Prince on Griffon
High elf loremaster/mage
10 swords masters w commmand
10 white lions w command
5 elyrian reavers

I had way more high elves including the battalion but stupidly sold them off when GW deleted warhammer.

getting back into it I think I would vastly prefer painting orcs n goblins…

But its cool to have some models to build up against if i wanted to have small games to see if anybody else i know is into it.

You can build lists for each army. High elf list won't be legal but if you're just doing it for funsies, it will give you some kind of idea. Meaning Orcs will easily clear core requirements while Swordmasters and White Lions are special in a grand army for High elves. I think only Reavers are core.

What Nathan said is totally accurate. But I will add lists don't need to be perfectly legal to do a small demo game, just to show friends the nature of movement, combat, spells, casualties, etc. Sounds like you have a good plan, and have fun with the greenskins!
