I've been looking at the Salamanders recently and all the fluff talks about their ornate and unique armor.

Then I look at the Attack of the Clones Primaris line of modern 40k and I think this doesn't fit what I've been reading.

In casual and Warhammer store level games (No non-Narrative-driven GT's in my future).
So you think people would mind me using Horus Heresy Marines in 40k games if I give them the new guns and weapons they are supposed to be armed with.

Absolutely not.
They’re about the right size, they’re definitely Marines, and if you switch the weapons, they’re even WYSIWYG.
Go right ahead! If you’re truly concerned, ask your local group.

What about armor? Is there a 30k Gravis armor?

Anything else I'm probably missing?

I guess I'm going to mix some old armours in with the new.

I can't imagine that everyone has crossed the Rubicon Primaris.

There is not going to be a 1-1/onto map for every 30k unit to 40k. So if you want to go pure 30k models, you might miss out on some options.

However there are more then enough to make a viable list.

A marine with a bolter is a marine with a bolter. Most people are not going to care. Will probably complement you on a unique and cool looking army.

If you do need to stretch on a counts-as or two, try to keep it consistent and only a handful of times. You do not want your opponent to constantly have to double check what’s what on the table.

For Gravis armor units, I've been using the 30k Tartaros kit. Pretty sure it's about the right size while still looking substantially beefier (which I like, T6 and 3W is a lot tankier than normal PA).

To match equipment, I've been using arms from PA bodies (Tartaros chests are the same width as first born chests).

I was going to use the 30k Apothecaries since there are 2 different sculpts and the Firedrake Assault Terminators are too cool not to use.

I'm not sure what else I could toss in the list. The ones with the ★ I can't find an easily identifiable 30k model.

30k has tactical support squads. You can buy a box full of special weapons, put them on whatever mk. armor you want.

If are using 30k power armor bodies for intercessors, you can have hellblasters and infurnus marines, no problems.

I mean this is the whole reason GW has been trying to separate the model lines - because the guy in accounting can't account for how well game X is selling when people use models from game X in game Y.

Heck the Skitari are still cross-over models between 40K and 30K for the Mechanicum. Plus I'm pretty sure a good chunk of the Custodes crosses over.
There used to be even more but Gw has been steadily retiring Forgeworld Kits or moving them into "30K only" territory in the rules.

So yeah no one is going to care if your Space Marines for 40K are current 40K models; 3rd edition ones; 30K ones or whatever. So long as they are on the right bases; have the right guns (or at least you can tell them apart easily); then you'll be 100% ok.

Ultimately the answer is "It Depends".

You and a few mates at your local spot? Fine.

A larger event with strangers? Potential cause for concern.

Large scale event? You will have problems.

Personally, I would grab as many Mk2/3 bits as possible from wherever you can and do it that way. Throw in some fancy CCW from Stormcast and maybe some bits as well (hammer motif and all that.
You won't find anything that would reasonably stand in for Gravis armour in HH.

It’s a question to if the old weapons fit on the new models. When HH2 launched they released boxes packed with plastic weapons for making support/heavy squads. IIRC they are compatible with the old Mk 3,4, and 6. The HH3 box has them upscaling the Heresy era marines. I’m not 100% sure about compatibility with the very latest.

I got a box to go with the Mk 6 in the HH2 box, but haven’t picked up the new guys to test.

Hh 2.0 already upscaled the marines, so you have compatible MK II, MK III and MKVI now. They can all take the upgrade sets. It's the older MKIV and many resin models that are still for sale that are in the older scale.

Interesting approach you have here. My 40K army consists of a mix of 30K and 40K marines, but I only use Gravis and Indomi Terminator models from the current 40K range, everything else is from 30K. Yet, I play my 30K marines as firstborn, so they are Legends ie. not tournament legal..

What about using Gravis marines, but kitbashing them with 30K bitz in order to make them look more blinged out? I think I've seen some nice kitbashes of such things over the years..

I have no issue with it. I run a Heresy era MK6 Squad as grey hunters, they have bolters and are marines as others have pointed out. I also runs some MK3 again as grey hunters. Its not been a problem so far,

Saturine Terminators as Aggressors etc maybe stretching it a little, but as long as they are on the correct base and roughly the same size and reasonably easy to identify it should be fine.

It depends.

You use some 30k marines as proxies for Chaos Legionnaires, mostly people are fine with it. It's just a proxy.

You bring 3 Whirlwind Scorpius tanks, they want to see your list and the rules that say you can do that.

If there's 40k rules for 30k models, always a good idea to be ready to explain it's presence.

So, if I use Loyalist Herald Consul model (30k banner bearer) in my 40k army as an ancient in my Company Heroes Squad, I should worry about players or TOs saying I can't use him because he's not one of the 40k Ancient models?

If you're mixing and matching Primaris and Firstborn then you'll have an issue.

If you've got only Firstborn models all as proxies of Primaris units, clear it with organisers first because some might be OK some might not.

Ultimately the units in your army should be obvious at a glance and especially with the mess that is Space Marines.

Sheesh. This makes me want to stick to playing guard.

There are such amazing HH models that have so much character (ie Firedrakes) compared to the generic Terminators that are being released lately.

Now I'm depressed.

My primary gaming location is a Warhammer store.

Ugh. I just remember the good old days where I could grab cool models and wedge them into my army, now it feels like I have to build a specific force with boring models.

I would love to rebuild my old Deathwing army with the HH Deathwing Terminators. They are absolutely gorgeous... but after scouring the net, it looks like that is a big no-no and everyone expects you to use the dull as a BLT on white bread new Terminators.

Terminators are Terminators; there's no such thing as Primaris Terminators, just the newer scaled ones, but nobody is going to stop you using Cataphractii, Tartaro,s or Legion variants when none of those things have 40k rules.

As long as the weapons are in line with the 40k datasheet you'll be fine.

We can’t tell you 100% that it will be fine. There hypothetically are people out there who will take issue with it.

Your odds of meeting them are low.

Slightly higher in a tournament setting, as counts-as tends to be more watched there, to prevent MFA, or just having a confusing army that wins not on list/skill/luck, but because your opponent could not tell what’s what.

There are people here who talk about their FLGS in a way that is alien to me. With normal behaviors that would have been shunned at every one I ever played at. So we can't guaranty that what you are planning will be fine with the TOs and FLGS in your area.

30k models are still GW models. You should not have issues at the local Warhammer store. Probably.

I suspect you will get more “Wow, cool!” then people giving you the stink eye.

But if you want a solid answer, talk to the people you are going to be playing against.
