Seriously, I think we need a rule about AI here. We've now had TWO AI-generated images infiltrate the 40k N&R thread in the last couple of days, and they're both pretty obviously AI. Granted, one is an alleged attempt to clean up a potato-cam photo, but it actually looks worse than the potato quality.
And this doesn't feel like something that's going to just 'get better' on its own.

Not sure how we could go about a blanket ban of AI images, if its a singular user repeatedly posting them as real then that is easily dealt with as it has heen before but otherwise?

AI slop is causing problems in my day job. It'd be nice not to have it wrecking my hobbies as well.

You could have a general policy - enforcement is a sheer nightmare though the nature of Dakka as a platform means that its likely fairly resilient compared to some other platforms.

We would have to check and vet every image posted on dakka and we lack the manpower for that, furthermore many companies now use AI art as part of their product and/or advertising (Kickstarters especially) so a blanket ban would be fairly counter productive.

To be honest, I think I posted one in the 40K N+R thread, unintentionally. The one where the rumor engine and left most silhouette of Huron's crew were compared. It did look a bit off, but I took that to be a potato cam issue.
I am ashamed and will accept the penalty!
With that said, the Tau pic was egregiously bad and blatant that anyone with a passing knowledge of the faction would know it was fake right off the jump and not worthy to post.

The Tau one was my fault.
Based upon my tiny phone screen that I use to see the world... and my complete ignorance of Tau (never been a big fan and haven't played against them since 5th edition).
I saw a tiny image on Instagram of very cool looking mecha, which was apparently not totally AI, it was a conversion with an AI background made to look like a 40k box.
So, yes I was fooled. Sorry.
But, I'm glad that I was able to have a community who was knowledgeable enough to point me in the right direction.

Funny you should ask...
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/813359.page
AI-generated images can be posted in the gallery and forums, they should be tagged as "AI Generated" and voting disabled.
This is the same policy we have when people post images from rule books or other creators to use as reference.
("AI" unfortunately redirects to Aeronautica Imperialis, so please use "AI generated")
I would also recommend against flooding the gallery with variations on the same AI-generated content. Just like we don't want to see the same goblin 20 times photographed from every angle. There are forums dedicated entirely to the use of AI and showing off AI-generated work, this ain't one of them.
In the end this is a forum for discussing our hobby and showing off our work, I don't want to exclude people who use IA-generated imaged, but I don't want them to overwhelm us either.
Basically my feeling is this is a place for people to post and show off their work. AI has its place, I used it to illustrate a Retro Review, I've used if for inspiration, but should not be passed off as your own work.
