Subject: Kill the meat - Save the metal (mostly painting mechs, mecha and other robots I guess)
I did the same thing last year for the most part, but due to a hard drive failure most of it got lost, womp-womp. So doing it properly out in the open this time. Here we go, a new year, a pile of new hobby challenges. Nothing too grand or amazing, as I still got way too much going on to really tackle big things.
Keeping it simple, the goals for this year are, in order of importance:
1. Paint at least 52 minis
2. One-off mini for Halloween
3. Paint at least one large model, on a 60mm base or larger
4. Get a tank or walker done for the Horus Heresy
Seeing as BattleTech has become more and more a thing for me, there’ll be a lot of ‘mechs on the menu for sure, especially now that we’ve got a cooperative mercenary campaign going on. The local club is also looking into Trench Crusade, though whether this will actually become a thing or just be one of those so-called Instagram projects, we’ll see, I have printed out a crapton of New Antioch models in any case, as well as put out a pre-order for the three upcoming plastic sets. There’s also Heresy related stuff, but that’s vapourware at this point, but I might still bite the bullet and try and get at least a model or two done for that one at some point. Finally, been given a Tamiya 1:48th scale M5 tank late last year, which was an absolute delight to build after building nothing but gunpla for several months now, so I may or may not indulge in the odd historical tank as well at some point. There might actually already be another one on the workbench right now that’s getting the Uncle Nightshift treatment, though nowhere near as good as he does it hehe.
Oh yeah, gunpla as well, but those won't count towards the total, a delight to build though.
On the desk right now, 'mechs! I need to at the very least complete the Wolverine (second on the left) before next weekend, when the next coop session is supposed to go down.
Also, smol tonk:
And the latest gunpla build, a MGSD Barbatos, ready to do some terrible things:
Not a lot done with a brush thus far, thanks to work and the weather (hardly any snow for years, then all of the sudden.. ALL of the snow), but I did manage to get four sensor markers done for BattleTech, not counting these towards my end goal for the year, as these were just primed light grey and then hit with Tesseract glow to represent a vague glowy effect representing a sensor marker on the map:
Not super nice or neat but it did the job nicely for our last campaign session.
I did find the time here and there to start work on the other pile of shame, having built the Red Shoulder Custom Scopedog from the Armoured Trooper VOTOMS series, minus some of the extra kit it comes with, as I quite like the basic Scopedog model. Also built Machu from Gundam GQuack, which not sure if I could call it a model kit, even though assembly was involved:
VOTOMS Scopedog by Wave Corporation and.. deep breath here!
Bandai Candy Link Travelers: The World Of 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX' Machu Coordinate Set
Someone is not amused. My fellow mod, that eternal ray of sunshine, declared her his spirit animal.
Still on the painting table, those new campaign mechs and a WWII US crew man I started work on a few nights ago.
