So I’m trying to make a quasi- power armored guard army. My idea stems from Recon Element Detachments Masters of Camouflage rule.

So I have Kasrkin (4+) and now they all have a 3+ due to the rule just chilling outside of cover.

If they are in cover they still get the 3+ because you can’t go under 3+ but what if I’m getting hit by ap -1? Are my dudes getting a 3+ still (because adding an additional +1, while they are in real cover or do they get a 4+?

Masters of Camouflage
ASTRA MILITARUM WALKER and REGIMENT models from your army have the Benefit of Cover. While such a model has the Benefit of Cover for any other reason (e.g. because it is wholly within a RUIN), improve the Save characteristic of that model by 1 (to a maximum of 3+).


It would be 3+. When you have this rule and are getting the benefit of cover from a ruin the save characteristic of a model increases by one up to 3+.
While getting the benefit of cover you add 1 to armor saving throws (unless the model is 3+ and the attack has an AP of 0).
So a model with a save of 3+ is hit with an attack with an AP of -1 deceasing the armor saving throw by one and the benefit of cover then increases the saving throw by one evening out at 3+.

This a commonly stated convention that is mechanically wrong.

Your Kasrkin sitting outside of cover have a 4+ Save with a +1 Bonus to their Saving Throw for the Benefit of Cover. This is effectively the same as 3+ Save, but is not actually a 3+ Save.

As stated by KingGarland, when actually in cover, they then improve that 4+ Save to a 3+ Save while retaining the +1 Bonus to their Saving for the Benefit of Cover. Since they now actually have a 3+ Save, the rule preventing the +1 Bonus to apply if the target has a 3+ or better Saving Throw now applies.
