I have spent more time trying to find out the what and when regrading these minis than i care to admit. Part numbers, release dates, and most importantly how were they bundled. There is a set currently available on ebay, (still OOP AFAIK) in "finecast" plastic. 99811499008 contains 6 casualties, so I'm almost 100% sure the one i have are legit GW since they're identical sculpts , but i have many more than what is in that set (minus the Easterlings)

Can anyone tell me
when these were sold and under what part numbers
what was the composition of the sets and how were they originally arranged, by faction?

I have 7 different dwarf sculpts (some look like Balin's Khazad Guard?),
3 different Rohan,
2 Gondor, a soldier and a Faramir's scout?
4 different sculpts of dead Elves,
and an Uruk (i know there's another Mordor orc casualty out there in finecast) .I'm not a gamer unfortunately, but i collect minis and build diorama's, and i would like to catalog these on a miniature wikipedia page for future generations of nerds to marvel at

struggling to attach image to this thread, but i believe this is on the forum now?

Hi there. So from your picture you do indeed have some of the actual GW sculpts.

Unfortunately(?) for you, there are quite a few that are clearly 3rd party sculpts, although they are pretty convincing. The picture I've attached has all the legit sculpts. If it's not in this picture, then it's not GW.

EDIT - Actually, allow me to amend myself, there is in fact, two additional plastic casualties available in the Easterling Kataphract and Rivendell Knights kits.

Your image does actually include the Rivendell Knight casualty, but in metal. So presumably, whoever you got these off has been recasting that particular part in metal.

The Rohan looking ones are metal recasts of Medbury minis 'Vendel Casualties', no idea about the Elf or other Dwarf ones but looking at the flash and mould lines they look to be homecasts too.

first and foremost, thanks for replying

not unfortunate at all, i don't really care too much if they're not actual GW. They will work in a diorama just fine. Admittedly, i got into this hobby late, but a few might be legit and pre-date the finecast resin. I've seen this before, original metal sculpts by GW re-released as resin many years later. The 2 types of Gondor minis and the Uruk are cast into the back

Then again maybe not, i see in many very tiny little inclusions, impurities in the metal or dirt in the mold that was cast into the model. I really doubt GW would let this thru their QC
The original seller did not claim these were GW BTW, simply said LOTR mixed manufacturers.

At first i didn't believe you, i thought " Who the hell would make a mold of a Resin print and then cast it in metal. silliest thing i ever heard"
Well, on some of the models with cloaks, you can see the actual wavy lines from the laser sintering the resin. They're very faint, and they must have really spent some time and removed it from the rest of the model, but why?

Why would anyone do this? and who is doing it, Eastern Europe, Asia, some 35 year old kid living in mom's basement? There's no money in it. I mean unless your selling thousands the time you spent would make the final profit what, pennies pennies hour of labor?

I'm still glad to have them, i prefer white-metal over PVC, resin or Lead, and I'll move some of the extra's along and hopefully get some $ back from my next project. Casualties in metal are surprisingly hard to find, i was thrilled to get the old Citadel dwarf stretcher bearers delivered to the US for a great price.

Used to be really common for people to cast their own metal models, an historics company used to sell an entire starter setup for people to do just that! And a lot of the MESBG range is well suited to it as they are pretty 'flat'. Commercially though most of the ones I have seen have come from Ukraine.
