Does anyone have a good resource for making map mockups, especially more 3D ones, online?
Preferably for free.

I tend to use Azgaar's fantasy map generator, but it's not 3D
https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/
try here

This one generates 3d models of the real world, maybe you can chop bits up and use them with new names.

I use Dungeon Scrawl for my 2D stuff. It's 3D I don't have anything for.

What kind of 3d maps ? RPG or table top?
If tabletop, then you may find tabletop simulator is best places maybe. But there is loads of RPG stuff of different styles.

What exactly is the use case? My default recomendation for making something 3D these days would be Blender, but it depends on what you're trying to do.

Something easier than Blender. I've used that in the past, and it's... A lot.
To Apple Fox, I want to try mocking up 40k battlefields.

A note on Blender. I tried using ot years ago and bounced right off of it, and I was a proffessional 3D artist, mind you. At the time its useability was definitely pretty awful. But I want to stress that it's come a loooooong way in the past decade or so. I tried it again 2 years ago because of the wealth of upgrades, plugins, and great community support it has going for it, and now I comfortably use it alongside my traditional suite of software. YMMV of couse, but I would say that if it's been a while since you tried it, it might be worth looking at again. It's improved quite a bit!

Try looking for one of those home decorator apps from Lowes or Home Depot. Make your board size the room (you may have to potentially chance the scale) make your scenery pieces the furniture to move around.

Tabletop simulator has a 40K set already built, so that maybe the best spot to start. I mostly use D&D ones, so not really what your after I think.
