I'd appreciate some help finding the name of a solo wargame I'm looking for.

I watched a video about it a few months ago but now can't find it or the name of the game anywhere. It was a recently released solo skirmish wargame where the player controls a modern special forces squad who pass through a portal into another world, and battle monsters and local warriors. It had a campaign system where the soldiers could level up but also make allies on the other side of the portal. I thought it was being released by Osprey, but I don't see any sign of it on their website. Has anyone else heard of this game?

Sounds like Forgotten Ruin from Modiphius, built on the Five Parsecs from Home system.

That's the one! Thanks so much. I guess I confused Osprey and Modiphius. Have you tried it out?

I have it, and all the other Five Leagues/Parsecs books, but haven't put this one on the table just yet.

I've got a solo Five Leagues campaign going on that I bounce into every now and then, and me and a buddy had a co-op Five Leagues game going for a while before getting distracted with other games. It's fun, but I think the biggest enjoyment from this engine comes more from the campaign building and emergent storytelling rather than the skirmish game itself. While the minis rules are perfectly acceptable and do their job, that's more for a "combat resolution" type portion of an RPG than a super-deep tactical gameplay kind of experience.

The Forgotten Ruin does sound fun, and eventually I'll probably do a little campaign, once I figure out what models I want to use for the team.

Good to know, and thanks for the insight. It's the campaign aspect that interests me the most, and an excuse to move minis around on a table when I can't find other players. I'll look into picking it up when money allows.

I have not read thsi one, but it borrows heavily from the 5 Parsecs system. Therefore, you can see my thoughts on that here:

However, you will see that I broadly agree with what Valander said.
