If they don't want players to have to actually decide between movement or shooting, just drop the freaking mechanic already.
They need restrictions to make elite units look exiting when they get very special ability to ignore the restriction (even if every unit exept guardsmen have a way to ignore it)

Kind of assume it'll be codex priced or less, it's about the same number of pages.
I'd guess it'd be around £25-30, as then that and a combat patrol would be the same price as the combat patrol starter set.
So the price options would be about the same for someone completely new the game wanting the combat patrol starter set - or the third person/second household who are starting with a third faction and the bigger book.
However given it's more or less a catalogue with a bunch of background, £15 like the introductory guide might make sense as something relatively easy to pick up and share around to build interest amongst your friends.

It’s looks like where all the faction fluff and hobby stuff that didn’t fit in the slimline rulebook ended up.
I wonder if it’s going to have any rules crunch stuff that’s not on the web/app? They want to have the intro thing for the game easily accessible, but also sell books.
Surprised the terrain templates were not in the launch box, but knew they would exist.
Nice to see all the rules crunch part of the edition hot on the heals of the launch, for those who don’t like marines a/o orks.

A little bit, I suspect there was some debate but since the launch box doesn't have any terrain it would kind of underscore that element a little.
I'd be curious if the ultimate starter set includes them alongside some terrain - card stock or otherwise.
We've not heard much about Combat Patrol yet, but I wonder if that's down to their agreement with Hatchette - as the last magazines in their run are due out 20th May in the UK.
It seems with there being so much talk around the sucess of Spearhead that they wouldn't be trying to replicate that with 40K as well.

Interesting it has the Collect, Build, Paint and Play split that they used in the Cities of Ash book (and that the Hachette Partworks have been using for nearly a decade now).

Lol, yeah that Combat Patrol book is very obviously the first half of the rulebook before they decided to split it in half, probably to reduce the shipping costs in our brave new world.
But it likely does mean that there's now an answer to "what do I need to buy to understand 40k as a complete newbie." Which is good and should have existed for a while.
I'm a little surprised there's not a bigger version of the core rulebook, but perhaps GW have finally come to the realisation that they change the rules so much it's kinda worthless now.
I don't want to use crappy cardboard as the base for my terrain, so I guess we'd better start working on some plastic versions or see who puts out STLs.

I like the new core rule book as buying a new £40 codex every 3 years is bad enough, but then paying the same again for an overloaded core book is a major turnoff. Something had to give as GW cannot expect players to pay through the nose for both rules and models, and still expect good "word of mouth" for the game. 11th edition might not have set the world on fire, but this is a positive step in the right direction.
The Combat Patrol Companion is nice, but not yet an indication of where they are taking the mode. I think Combat Patrol is ready to become it's own game now and just needs a little spice - some options between games - in order to do that. You don't expect access to the entire arsenal of a 40K Codex, but some optionial units between games is all it needs - even Kill Team offers that. But still, this is an ideal way to decouple beginners and mildly interested players, from those who have already been to a few rodeos and want to play 40K in it's entirety.

Typically its the only place to get the core rules in print form in their full state at launch. GW has done those mini-books but they often come later with the smaller format starter sets or on their own.
That said if you're getting core rules at that point in time either you get them in the boxed set (so basically free with the models) or there are often loads being sold secondhand from split boxes and people buying more than one box. If anything they are super cheap to pick up at that stage as there's a glut of supply and less demand than for the models in the boxed sets.

When I’m sitting down to read/digest/learn a game for the first time, I much prefer physical books. Easier to flip, bookmark, etc. But I’m old school like that.
As a marine player, I’ve picked up the launch boxes for the last few editions. So the rule book was a gimmie with all the cool new minis. Last time I bought a core book was back in 7th where the starter was armies I didn’t play. Picked up the slimline gamer’s edition. But that was before the app.

All I'm really hoping is they actually produce enough of the mission decks. A huge issue in 10th was that they (as with most everything) underproduce and it sells out within a week or two and they're like "welp, too bad" when that's the way you are meant to play the game and can't really play without it since the core book only has one single generic mission. Mission decks should be produced up until the next one goes on pre-order especially if they are still going to stick with that being the only source of missions.

GW has this love-hate relationship with cardstock game aids. On the one hand they love using cards all over the place.
On the other they hate doing more than one print run; which results in them being a product that's designed to work for the 3 years of the edition (minimum) but which often have a shelf life measured in weeks/month or two.

While the deck in the launch box is not labeled as such, the stand alone release explicitly says 26-27. So expect a new deck every year.

That's effectively always been an issue. Card print runs have always had a production lead time that means any changes or reprints are a couple years out. That works for stand alone things like board games or card sets, but it has no ability to keep pace with the ever-adapting demands of a competitive wargame. Even print on demand services have flopped pretty hard in their attempts to fill the gap. Digital and self print have been the only functional solutions.
EDIT: This is made dramatically worse at the moment by the card game speculator bubble. Card manufacturing is basically constantly operating at peak capacity at the moment which is also why you're seeing so many games swap to tarot sized cards where there's less demand.

That smaller box seems like it has all except the chaplain, ancient and half the intercessors? Its quite a good one it its true.
I want the marine half of the release set but depending on the price, this smaller one, may turn out to be a good option too.

Also the HB guys.
Odds of the chaplain, HBs, and ancient being on a mixed sprue? Maybe or maybe not with 5 intercessors, depending if they duplicate the 5 bodies.

The HBs, Ancient, and Chaplain do indeed share a sprue. The Intercessors are on a large/double sprue able to be broken in half with 5 on each half.
