Sound advice, but is there anything else too? I thought about bringing a cheat sheet of stuff for reference and a notepad. And how many dice? I've seen people say 20, but orks supposedly usually need more.

20 should be fine. If you need to roll more, do batches.
Anything that might help you remember rules is also good, but not strictly needed.

Sacrifices for the dice gods.
Dice and measuring device are the basics.
It can be good to have some dice different then others, either for mixed weapons in units, or wound trackers. If you use your regular dice to track wounds on models they can get scooped up when gathering dice for that huge volley.
Paper and a pencil to track VP/command points/other stuff.
I like to keep some plastic poker chips and a grease pencil on me to help track stuff. Unit debuffed? Write “-1 to hit” on a chip amd place it next to the unit to help remember.
Objective markers and some stuff to fill up a table if you are providing the space to play. Could be stacks of books and soda cans, we all started somewhere.
Little beads to mark out deployment zones. Laser pointer for LoS. Absolutely not required, but handy.
Read the main rules. Read your army rules for your patrol. Might want to make a copy/study the core stratagems. Easy to forget, but useful tricks there.
Have fun, relax. Enjoy!

That's genius.

That's genius.
In prior editions when I was more active I used a program called Magic Set Editor to make M:tG style cards to help track things like psychic powers, warlord traits, and doctrines. For the stuff a little more complicated then just simple plus/minus mods.
Also, a dice tray is nice to have to keep our little 6-sided friends together.
I’ve got 2 setups for accessories, one for my foam cases, one for my magnetic boxes.

That's really smart! I'll definitely bring something like that. I don't have to worry about terrain, as I'll be playing at my local game store, and they have terrain for everyone to use for free.
