Both of the GW models are horrible. I've been looking around for models of similar size that would make decent candidates for conversion into my army's equivalent (same rules, different model). I'm fielding an army from a high-tech world of all-humans, so Hussars and Ogre-things don't exactly fit the profile.

So far, I've come up with using Scout Bikes for Rough Riders, and converting Penitent Engines to look like a mechanical apparatus that would allow the occupant to exhibit the traits of an Ogryn (minus the stupidity, of course).

I love the idea of both of these models as counterassault units, although RR's are undoubtedly better than their Ogrish comrades. Let me know of any suggestions.

Please keep in mind though that I'm relatively inexperienced with Green Stuff, and do not have ready access to it, so GS-minimal suggestions would help even more. Thanks.

Well sounds like a good idea...

Lets see ogryn models are terrible, you could well use Ork Nob bodies and ogryn heads.....

What about some "Jacked" up human, high tech worlds might have some kinda human ex-oskelaton thing going on. Maybe they could be products of a good working relationship between the adeptus mechanicus and the guard unit? Tech guard maybe?

Penitent engines are going to burn a hole in your pocket if you by a bunch.

Anyways good luck Ill try to find some alternate ogryn pic's online......

Thanks for the suggestions. You're right about the Penitent Engines. 35 bucks a pop will kill me for a five-man squad.

What do you think of using the top half of an XV25? I would swap their hoof-legs for SM legs, and make their Burst Cannons look like ripper guns.

You can convert the Fantasy Ogres into good overly large ogryn with some greenstuff wife beater tshirts and baseball caps. Mine look like bruisers from Castro's brute squad. In the alternative, a unit of Spyrier's from Necromunda would fit the rules while being "tech" oriented, especially the Patriarch and the Orrius?

I'm not sure what models you're referrinf to. Do you happen to have a link that I could take a look at? I looked around several Necromunda-related sites, but found little that helped.

Another option is to use Mega-Armored Ork torsos as techno-techno mecha-servitors. You could also do some kind of imperial robot based on the old plastic termies (there used to be a guide to that conversion somewhere) or Epic mini-titans (they'd be the right size).

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I hadn't thought about that. What would be an appropriate-sized helmet to put on a Mega-Armored Ork body?

Edit: I found a pic of a Spyrer, Durandal. Not what I'm looking for, unfortunately. It looks too much like a techpriest for me. Sorry.

The Orrus Spyrer is a nice model. I like the idea of a soldier in a suit with a pair of mini-power fists and bolt launchers/ripper gun, I just wish they didn't look curvy and reminiscient of oldschool models.

Do y'all think it'd be simple enough to shave him in half and put on a pair of SM legs?

What if you used sentinel legs to make something like a smaller Imperial version of an Eldar Warwalker?

make a cockpit for a driver and have the "hips"  of the sentinel legs connect to the cockpit so that they are about even with the driver's shoulders. The Driver would then dangle between the suit's knees.

What I am thinking of would be something like the battlepod seen in the Spiderman movie. You know, the one the Green Goblin blew up?

There was a good rough rider conversion on the forums here - LOtR Warg bodies, with horse hooves, and riders on the back using something that looked like riot shields (I think the riders were taken from another range, but you could convert them from cadian parts and the classic legs - the riot shields could from from the new Necromunda Enforcer models).

Alternatively you could make human-robot centaurs using the robotic dog from the Inquisitor scale - http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99111399015&orignav=300808

As for Ogryn equivalents - I put my vote in for Ork mega-armoured Nob bodies for the torso, and then mounting a nice big gun on the side for the Ripper gun - you could use any excess guns from the heavy weapon sprues. Then jus fill in the head-hole with greenstuff/moedlling putty, and add some detailing using gubbins (a couple of discs to look like cameras, that sort of thing).

Thanks for the help. I won't be able to build these buggers until late November, but I will definitely put up some pics of how they turn out.
