I have actually seen the 200 gretchin army before. Let's just say this, it has it's ups and downs. It has so much fodder in it that it is rediculous. You will be able to choose what you want to fight and when. However, you MUST give the slavers powerclaws. If you don't then you will get eaten up by anything with a decent save and many attacks. However, when you are facing close combat horde armies like tyranids not even the powerclaw may help. You will be relying on your elites and HQ to beat the "super units" in your enemies army. one other thing, armies like Imperial guard, or especially the armored company will have a hayday with ordnance. With so many bodies out there it will be impossible for them to miss. oh, and a vindicare assassin will be more than worth it against you. He can kill off about 400-500 points all by himself by simply sniping your slavers and letting the grots run away.

Executing Exarch

Sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to see it in action. Should be fairly viable due to the shear number of attacks.

A squad of 30 gretchin that get to shoot and charge with every single member (assuming every marine wiffed its attacks) will kill 4.7 MEQ on the charge WITH a pk nob. Then it'll probably lose combat and get run down.

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

My friend has this army with just brilliant conversions in it, seriously awesome army. He has 200 Grots, with slavers with power claws, and everything else is counts as. He has 9 killa kans that are little grot versions, a grot warboss and big mek and little grot warbuggies. it is a really really cool army, ill try to find some pics to post.

really really really hoping the new ork codex has more options for grots - many of us would love to do a Grot Liberation Front army, but the current sole option - 'really big horde of crappy grots with crappy weapons' - is just a little limiting. Although you can of course proxy other units, e.g. grots in big robot suits counting as Ard Boyz or whatever...

I share your love for Gretchin. I would at like see the Grot Blasta become a pistol. So they could get an attact of A-1+1 with a dagger and Blasta. Plus maybe some Grethin Dogs of Waaagh, (Grots riders on Hounds). Make them A Fast choice give them a skill like FREE HAND RIDERS which would count as Expert rider but with a added plus, the Grot armed with Two Grot Blastas which count as twin-linked plus the Waaagh Hound would still be able to fleet of foot as well. The Grot would be able to shoot after the Fleet move. The Hound would be the one that attact in hand to hand with Ws-3 St-3 T-4 A-2 AC-5 their mob size would be 6-15. What do you think about that?

I've had mixed results with a Gretchin-heavy army. In one case I've had whole units wiped out in seconds by Eldar Warp Spiders who popped up next to them and obliterated them before they got off more than a single volley. On the other hand, when they closed in on a group of Eldar Guardians they overwhelmed them sheer numbers in hand to hand combat and were tenacious enough to hold on for quite a long time (thanks to some good Leadership rolls from their Slaver and his Squig Hound). They were enough of a success in cheaply tying down enemy units that I am going to give the tactic another go and see what happens. Oh, and in one example these Eldar sent in Banshees to wipe out a unit of Gretchin - who almost immediately went to ground upon being attacked... suddenly leaving the Banshees in the open with no cover at all. Yeah, it went poorly for those Banshee after that.
