I have seen a number of people say that this won't be allowed, but I have not heard one person who has read the codex saying that there is a specific prohibition against it....

The ability of Harlies to ride in a Falcon is probably what determines whether I go with Harlies, or simply stick to my Banshee squad with WS.

Anyone know FOR SURE?

Thanks,

Mez

"I have had it with these mother&*^%ing Harlies on this mother&*^%ing Falcon!"

OK, so it doesn't flow the same... but I had to do it.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

And GW's justification for this will be... what exactly? Whatever it is it'll probably make just as much sense as say... oh... the 0-1 Wings limit on HT's in the Tyranid Codex - in other words their justification will be bollox!

The justification will probably be that that harliquins do not use falcons (per the fluff) because they do not fit well through the webway portals that the harlies use. As well (and also per the fluff) they aren't really a part of the eldar army so much as they show up to help fight, thus they aren't going to be given one by the army the fight alongside.

The copy of the codex that I saw (which may not have been the final print) had NO restriction on their ability to ride in a Falcon.

they will be relagated to counter charging, for th emost part. Or walk them behind a WL? for a shooty eldar army, they will be nice to deter or counter enemy assaults though. It does stink that they do not have a transport option or the ability to infiltrate like the old Mimes.

counter charge? I mean they have I7 don't they? Even serious assault units should have hard times against those bad boys.
The only problem I see is that they will probably be shot at once before assaulting and those 5++ saves won't help against rapid firing bolter/standard infantery weapon.

I don't see that they will be a no brainer, especially if you use the harlequins as the only melee-choice in your army.

Umm. Rumors say they can't be shot until 2d6x2 (average of 14" if true, which just so happens to be their charge range on a fleet of foot roll of 2)
They completely ignore terrain and have fleet of foot.

They have ways of getting there. Still, an upgrade option of a mime that let them infiltrate would be very nice.

I agree, you let the enemy assaulter come to you and pounce on them with the Harlies. Keep them out of LOS and then charge right through level three terrain (or whatever). with plasma grenades they can make the charge and ensure they will go first against nearly any unit, whether they are in cover or not. as for a straight, run at them and assault, type unit? I dont think that would be their best roll, they are too fragile and expensive for that roll, IMHO.

In a shooty army, you keep them back and hide untill the enemy is in range of your assault. For all out assault armies, i would think from the rumors that banshees in WS's or scorps would be better due to their ability to take a transport and lower points cost.

The only problem being the near worthlessness of the transport for assault troops due to being closed topped.

Troll country

Harlies have fleet, which makes them fast enough a lot of the time. I do think they should have a transport available though.

Eh, take the Falcon, but save it for something that truly needs it, like Fire Dragons. The night fight roll should be enough to protect the Harlies if you stick near terrain and limit LOS to them. You can always use their Hit & Run ability as a slingshot to get where you need to go, too. Just remember that they'll have a huge bullseye on their heads thanks to their hefty price tag. Position your other units accordingly to take advantage of it.

A pieplate or two, or even a few Smart Missiles will really make a mess of them, though, so the things carrying them will have to be a first priority. Not that they aren't already, given their effect on just about any other Eldar unit. Still, I personally wouldn't risk using them competitively (I don't play Eldar anymore anyway), but they're workable if you don't mid taking a gamble. If nothing else, they're a heck of a lot better than any of the crummy, unusable units out there, like Ogryns, Krootox, or Repentia.

With the ability to ignore difficult terrain + a fleet roll, tucking these guys away waiting to strike is a great option. Also, it allows them to travel through terrain dense areas with no penalty to movement. Sometimes taking that path is much better if you can get the movement....which they get.
