Hello fellow Warhammer 40k players!

I'm all but finished with my space marine army but wanted a nice finishing touch - Grey Knights allies. I've read through the Daemonhunter codex again and again and just love the fluff and the beautifully sculpted models. But before I buy any models I'd love to get your input on Grey Knights as allies to my proud Adeptus Astartes. What are your experiences playing with them as allies? What about playing against them?

I'm pondering getting just one unit, one of the following:

1. Grand Master
2. Brother-Captain with Terminator Retinue
3. Grey Knight Terminators
4. Grey Knights in Power Armour(either as teleporting troops or "normal"

What do you think would fit in an space marine army? I know making any suggestions might be hard not knowing my army composition, but I wont bore you with a full list of what I have - I'll mention that my army is about 55% assault troops and 45% firepower however.

Any suggestions and comments are appriciated!

Cheers!

As long as you don't mind giving up assault cannons, Grey knight terminators are better than normal terminators in alomst every way. Strenth 6 power wepons with 4 attacks on the charge with a weapon skill of 5 is pretty darn good. Add to that their ability to cancel out psychic powers and their shouding ability, it is too good to pass up. All that for just a few more points.

If you're taking them for CC muscle you're better off with Assault Terminators instead of GK Termies.

For the same points as a squad of 5 GK Terminators you can get 6 Assault Terminators with Lightning Claws and/or some Thunder Hammers thrown in, which is better vs. MEQ's for Killy Potential.

If you REALLY wanted to make them nasty you could cost a little bit more than the GK Termies and you can have your Assault Termies with Furious Charge.

Just remember that you cannot field regular GK's in Power Armor if you have anyone in power armor (ie your dev/assault/tact squads).

What I am working on is a 2k list with codex marines. About 1500 goes into the Marines, rest go into a Deathwatch Kill team w/ 2 Heavy Bolters. On top of that I field an Inquisitor as an Elite choice, either with shooty retinue (IST with plasma, Gun Serv) or a CC Retinue (2x Acolytes with Storm Shields). With this in mind if I work out the point cost right, you can include a single assasin (callidus or vindicare depending on army I'm facing)

I have yet to try the GK Termmie route, but from what I have seen they are nasty in the field, esp with psycannons

That is incorrect. If you have a base SM list, and you are taking Daemonhunter allies, you can take anything you like, subject to 1 HQ, 1 elite, 2 troops, and 1 fast attack. The restrictions are only in effect if you are inducting marines into a Daemonhunter list.

I'll never understand where the misconception came from that you cannot take demon/witch hunter armies in power armor as allies for marines. GW isn't stupid. They know that part of the appeal of marines lies in the ability to take allies: Assassins, Sisters, Inquisitors, and GKs.

Black Templars are granted an exception to their "No Psyker Allies" rule for GKs! Battle Sisters fit really well fluff wise with my chapter as well.
