i was tinkering with my Black Templar list and am heavily leaning towards addig a terminator squad with 2 assault cannons. My problem is they only put one in the box of plastic termies. what would be the cheapest way to get the 2nd assault cannon. i do have the assault cannon piece for the landspeeders (i have several) i was wondering how to model it on the 2nd terminator? any suggestions?

Battlewagon Bits sells 5 man Termi squads with 2 Cannons for the price of a stock squad and Ass Canon bits for about $15 +/-.

I have no idea if it will mesh well with the new clunky and under-detailed termies, but you can still bitz order the assault cannon from GW:

I would cut the front off a heavy flamer and add the extra barrels.

the obliterator gun sprue has an assault cannon muzzel.

The old terminator arm is much too small, but the new heavy flamer can be converted with brass rod or similar. To give you an idea:

Unfortunately this situtation is another example of GW ripping off its customers horribly. 20 pounds for the entire term box set, and 15 pounds for the sprue with the assualt cannon as its full of junk you niether want or need.

Sadly its a common trend now and really sickens me. For example the new Eldar Autrach has his power sword attached to the main body sprue, so instead of paying £1.25 for the sword you have to buy a whole new Autrach for 5 pounds or something.

I'd say your best option is to use the swap shop board here and see if anyone has one they want to trade or use the metal assault cannon from the land raider crusader. You can order that seperate and its roughly the same barrell size and length as the chunky plastic one. As people have already said, sadly the old metal one from the classic terminators will be way too small.

Gundammecha, that's called smart business marketting.

They realize those parts will be in higher demand and are marketting them in spures they know they can charge more for.

BW bits is a great site, I just wish they had all armies... GW should take this idea and do it themselves.

Indeed, I agree. GW should just do this themselves.

It would be a great idea to rob from someone who uses a secondary market, to make it into a primary market..

Yes, but youre missing alot of bits for them. All you get is the stock, no frills whatsoever squad. two ass cans, 1 sgt, 2 normal PF/stormbolter termies. Though, admittedly, you dont need alot of extra bits for them.

If you can wait, GW is producing a second DA sprue that will include another ass cannon that is looking to be cheaper than buying a second termie sprue.

if you want the sprue, dropzoneonline has them for 20% off with free shipping on all bits orders.

So you could buy the sprue (99380101021) for $20 from dropzoneonline.

Or buy a single ass cannon for $15 from battelwagon bits with $3 shipping.

I wonder which is the better deal?

I refuse to promote Battlewagon bits anylonger.
Overpriced, with bad customer service. Its like GW's baby mongoloid brother.

BWBits has given me nothing but top notch service. You can do sprue- bit orders from them as well at a discount IIRC. The 2nd Ass Can has a disclaimer if you wonder why it costs sooo much.

They had a sale this weekend too. There were 25.00 dreads and all kinds of stuff, when that ran out bits were 20% off! There bits are priced to demand so...if anything they are not overpriced and there service is top notch. I recieved everything quickly from them both in the US and Iraq.

So if you refuse to promote "positively" you should refuse to promote at all.

Or I could have my opinion for very good reasons just as you do. Simple as that.

Since this forum is sponsored by that company, it is also fair to give them their due, both positively and negatively.

I believe in fair is fair. My opinion is not completely grounded in sour grapes. But as I said, fair is fair.

I've had nothing but good service and good prices from BWbits as well.

I was surprised the other day when I saw the price for a single asscan but then I looked at it and I know why they price it as such. Demand for asscans is high, and gw does not supply a second gun on the sprue, and at the same time they create a great desire to use a second asscan. So BWbits gets a lot of demand for an item that they have to buy an entire expensive sprue for (which makes heavy flamers really cheap incidently), and generally only the asscan is wanted. So you can choose to not get the bit at all, or have a bit whose cost is driven up. Blame GW for causing the problem, not the guys who try to solve it.

I dont blame them for charging their prices, thats understandable.

I offered comparable, if not better options. In both customer service, and pricing.

Personally I'd just convert a landspeeder bit or scratch build a second gun.

I disagree on the smart business marketing point. Smart business would be to offer the part on a smaller sprue (that would sell far more units at a lower price) or include 2 on the original sprue. GW has to respect its customers as it has a small dedicated customer base. Annoy them with scummy business practices like this and people will ultimately become dishearted and angry and will leave the company to go to a competitor (of which there are many).

This is just arrogant pig headedness on the part of GW, and a total disregard for gamers and the hobby which they so allegadly promote. Soon enough their Iron Halo will crack and all those nasty rending claws will come right in and take their toll. GW need to realise that they are far from invincible, unfortunately under the current leadership that doesnt seem forthcoming

You can use the old metal assault cannon arm for just the barrel. Then there is also the previously mentioned two mini-gun like barrels on the Obliterater ranged weapons tree. However, I like your ideas better as they don't require ridiculously overpriced GW bitz.

I had to find 5 assault cannons for my Lysander Wing of Doom army I took to Open War 6 at Warhammer World a few months ago, so I used the following method. Apologies for the rubbish image quality - it was the best I could find.

Well, it would seem the judges didn't mind. I won best army

Thats pretty cool. Conversions are always better anyways, especially the simple ones that are effective.

Mandrake's conversions are perfect, but for those who have access to Tau burst cannons here's what I did.

These are with the old plastic termis, but I think the effect would be similar with the new ones.  I just used the heavy flamer arm on one and i duplicated it with styrene on the other.  Of course, the front is the Tau burst cannon.

Nicely done Arstahd. Any chance of a step-by-step for assembling it? I'm not familiar with some of the parts you showed in the pic, especially how you did the 'barrel bindings'

OK, here goes.

The odd parts are salvaged from electronics printed circuit boards.  The black doodad is a hood or shroud for a round LED.  The nuts are pressed and imbedded into a board (held tight by the knurling) and are used to anchor a screw.  Next time you throw away a piece of electonics equipment, open it up and see if there is something useful inside first.  I happen to work with them so they're easy for me to come by.  A similar effect can probably be made with washers or the like.

The first thing to get right is the barrels.  I used some copper wire (16 gauge I think), but anything similar will do.  Cut six identical lengths and a seventh longer one.  I made mine double length so when complete I could cut it in half and have two complete barrels.  Use tape or a small rubber band to wrap the six barrels around the center shaft.  Once everything is aligned, use a thin consistancy superglue to glue the barrels together, making sure not to glue the tape or rubber band in the process.  When dry, remove the temp fastener and then glue the revealed area.  I then cut the assembly in half and trued the ends by running them across a mill file, making a nice flat surface to glue latter.

The rest is shown in the following illustrations.

That about does it.  The design is fairly simple and should be adaptable to whatever materials you might have available.
