I've been playing with IG for a few months now and have noticed that my units tend to crumble late in the game when Marines/Terminators make it into close combat. I wanted a good counter charge unit, but I don't like the Rough Rider models (thinking about converting some Knights of Minas Tirith though) so I decided to go with Grey Knights. I know GK Terminators are expensive, but I like the look of the model much more than the standard PAGK (what does PA stand for by the way?) so I went with them. Here's the list I'm going to be trying out: Doctrines Iron Discipline Drop Troops Close Order Drill HQ - 1 Company Command Squad Junior Officer + Honorifica Imperilis + Iron Discipline Guardsman x 4 + Veteran Standard Bearer HQ - 2 Grey Knight Hero Grey Knight Brother-Captain + Sacred Incense (play against a lot of Chaos) + Hammerhand Grey Knight Terminator x 4 + Incinerator (came in the Termie box) Elite - 1 Hardened Veteran Sergeant Hardened Veteran x 4 + 3 x Meltagun Troops - 1 Junior Officer + Plasma Pistol + Power Weapon Guardsman x 4 + Missile Launcher Guardsman x 10 + Lascannon + Plasma Gun Guardsman x 10 + Lascannon + Plasma Gun Guardsman x 10 + Lascannon + Plasma Gun Troops - 2 Junior Officer + Plasma Pistol + Power Weapon Guardsman x 4 + Missile Launcher Guardsman x 10 + Lascannon + Plasma Gun Guardsman x 10 + Lascannon + Plasma Gun Guardsman x 10 + Lascannon + Plasma Gun Heavy Support - 1 Leman Russ Battle Tank + Hull Lascannon + Extra Armor Heavy Support - 2 Leman Russ Battle Tank + Hull Lascannon + Extra Armor I have about 19 points left. Any suggestions?

My main question about the grey Knightsis how you intend to deploy them, as well as how the rest of the force is going to be deployed. I imagine that the refused flank castle is probably your best bet, with the Grey Knights near the HQ. As for the 19pts, why not give your Russ Improved Comms?

I imagine that the refused flank castle is probably your best bet, with the Grey Knights near the HQ. As for the 19pts, why not give your Russ Improved Comms? Everything deploys normally except for the Hardened Vet squad which will Deep Strike. Usually have each platoon concentrate on armored targets till its gone. The two Russes will work together to target infantry units. The GK Terminators will be deployed from the start to back up my lines and will probably be moving towards where the first close combat will be. What is a "refused flank castle"? My two main opponents are Chaos with a horde of Khorne Berzerkers and a Chaos Undivided with a nicely balanced list (Dreds, Defiler, Raptors, Marines in Rhino, Walking Marines, and Terminators).

Hmm... the problem with taking Daemonhunters, specifically Grey Knights, is that if you run into a Chaos army with a lot of daemons, you're going to find yourself overwhelmed as all those daemons get to keep coming back and coming back each time you kill them. Not fun. BYE

Yes, I am aware. Would you not play vehicles on the chance you run into a Necron army with lots of Gauss weapons? Anyway, any answer to my question on what a refused flank castle is?

PA=power armor. As to the demons coming back thing, I think that if you prioritize and shoot the close summoning units, you'll be ok, but HBMC has a point. As to the modeling thing: you could just get SM scout bikes...sure they don't really fit the WW1/2 look of guard, but they do work. Also, there's a pretty intricate conversion on the UK GW site...a whole lot of work, but the minis kick ass. cheers

Oh, and if I'm not mistaken, refused flank castle is where you put your entire army in one corner of the board to maximize the distance that assault troops have to go to get to you.

Posted By kadun on 01/14/2007 7:27 PM Would you not play vehicles on the chance you run into a Necron army with lots of Gauss weapons? That's an extremeley flawed argument. The presence of tanks does not allow the Necron army to keep coming back to life over and over again, beating me due to sheer attrition. A single GK allows every Daemon to come back as many times as they like - even if the GKs are dead! Every daemon bomb player in the world will love your army. Furthermore, when you ask for advice on a list, and someone gives it to you, throwing it back in their faces like your comment above is a bad way to get help in the future... BYE

When the daemons comes back, they come on at the back of their deployment zone, not through summoning. Odds are that with summoning, the new waves of daemons should never reach anything on your side before the end of the game. If anything, they give you another chance to score more victory points.

Furthermore, when you ask for advice on a list, and someone gives it to you, throwing it back in their faces like your comment above is a bad way to get help in the future... BYE I was simply pointing out that you are limiting yourself to not using nice units (Grey Knights) on the chance you might possibly play a Daemon army. I went to support this by asking if you would limit yourself to not using vehicles, on the chance you might possibly play a Necron army. I realize you are a "veteran" poster on this forum, so it suprises me how much offence you take. To go on further, although I appreciate your advice, I do have the codex and have read and understand the rules concerning sustained attack vs Daemons and still was not deterred in using Grey Knights. I, in fact, could interpret your first comment as a sublte attack on my reading and reading comprehension abilities, but I chose not to. I apologize if I did not pay the appropriate amount of homage to your "veteran" status in my previous reply to your comment, and am sorry that you took offence.
