1. Sorry but you're in the wrong section. This should be under tactics or discussions as it is the rules interpretations section.

2. They're pretty similar. Because there is less value people generally will keep with the non-converted option. Personally I much prefer the twin linked H Bolter option from FW.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Multi-Lasers are excellent weapons - that's why there isn't much point using anything else. Autocannon turrets are very nice though...

Also why pay forgeworld prices to replace a turret you dont need to replace.

The multilaser beats the heavy bolter against anything except 4+ and 5+ saves. An IG army has enough firepower that it doesn't need to really worry about those.

In all mech guard armies, the extra range and (vehicle) armor punching ability of the Autocannon on some Chimeras can be quite useful.

However, in most standard Guard armies where you have 2-4 Chimeras and plenty of AT weapons, the multi-laser and the heavy bolter compliment each other better than any other combination of weapons available.

The fact that they have the same range and roughly the same strength but: the HB has the AP4 for targets with a 4+ save, while the ML has the Strength of 6 to insta-kill T3 creatures or take down AV10 vehicles makes them the perfect combo.

The twin-linked HB turret loses the Chimera its AT ability against light vehicles. The Heavy Flamer turret reduces the Chimera's early turn firing ability (and forces the Guard player to move towards the enemy for full effect, which usually isn't a good thing for the Guard). The Autocannon turret has some advantages, but the range mismatch with the Heavy Bolter and it's increased points cost mean that the HB/ML combo still reigns supreme in a standard guard army.

Don't forget the heavy stubber. With it's 36" range, it matches very well with the rest of the weapons on that platform.
