I find this initial look at the buildings to be pretty disapointing. I think most people were expecting a range of kits like the Cities of Death range, where you have panels which can be swaped around. These buildings do not look like you can do that as well, and are not in "half timber" style anyway, which is what I think of when I think "warhammer". I do like the accessory bits anyway, and the creepy trees should be useful to add some color to a game.

It doesn't look like it. The wings are both down like it's trying to climb. On closer inspection it looks like a dragon ridden by a Chaos Warrior. The wings are just funny.

So, it's a modular game board. Why exactly is it modular? Looks like a bunch of large tile with mostly green and a little bit of brown. But wait! You can move the tiles around and....! It's a board with mostly green and brown! So, remind me why it is modular again? I must admit to liking the way they have cut the modules up. Nice and curvy so there is no way it can fit with home made modular boards. Go GW! No avenue for profit goes unexplored! I am one lazy SOB and even I will pass that up in favor of my own feeble attempts. Buildings look nice enough. They would certainly add some color and spice to a board. Not a fan of the trees. I can make better for way less. ender502

Looking at the pic, it seems that you COULD expand the board by buying more middle sections.

You can move the tiles around and....! It's a board with mostly green and brown! So, remind me why it is modular again? That would be because for many people, a small stack of 2'x2' tiles are going to be easier to store than a 4'x6' board... Posted By ender502 on 02/04/2007 8:28 PM I must admit to liking the way they have cut the modules up. Nice and curvy so there is no way it can fit with home made modular boards. Go GW! No avenue for profit goes unexplored! Well, it could be pointed out that it also makes the board hold together better, rather than having the sections move apart when they are knocked, and also effectively removes the usual problem with modular boards where they have a nice regular gridwork marked out on them that allows players to estimate distances much more easily...

That's just the advertised price. By the time it's released they'll have raised it to 2 testicles.

The table looks nice. It's studiness will be a key consideration. Is it durable enough to use to expand the surface area of a card table or dining table? If no and you already need you're own 6x4 table, then you're better off with a battlemat of some sort.
I quite like the Empirey buildings though. Depending on price I'll likely pick up a set.

The buildings look ok. Provided they work out cheaper than non-FW resin alternatives (i.e. around £15/building) I may get some, otherwise.... pshaw!
Hills... meh: 2 minutes with a slab of polystyrene and a hot wire cutter is better.
Modular board - fair enough: a great way to relieve the terminally lazy from their cash again. Remind me exactly how much effort is required to cut styrene into 2x2 squares and stick flock to it?
I dare say they'll sell tolerably well, bought by doting Grandmothers for their eight-year-old offspring - so fits right in with GW's target demographic then!

Actually, the buildings look pretty good. GW seems to be doing scenery ( COD for example) that people want, anyway. The table...it'd be great if it were as sturdy as it ought to be, but previous experience with certain GW terrain pieces leads me to wonder. Besides, could it be cheaper than getting a Monday Night Game Mat? I can attest to their awesomeness.

I've seen all three work well. I agree about the guesstimating problem but I doubt the curves will be all that much of a help with that. The buildings are nice. ender502

The "modular" table is boring and not really modular. They're only "modular" if you consider a jigsaw puzzle to be modular. Besides, there are a lot of companies making better, more interesting, (and probably far cheaper) truly modular terrain boards out there.
The buildings though are VERY nice (with the possible exception of the "Ruins" - which aren't really ruins). That taller building in partricular is interesting. With some techy bits and grime added, these would make great "downhive town" Necromunda terrain.

Thats not really fair, there is a valid and practical reason why the joins should be curved. It varies the sizes of the pieces more and makes it slightly harder to judge ranges. If a unit crosss the boardline it is now approximately 24" across the board rather than exactly 24", straight board edges make guessing for cannon very easy.

Where are these mythical places where people play Mordheim and Necromunda? I used to be able to play Necromunda everywhere when GW was actually supporting it. Now that it's a "specialist game", it seems no one's heard of it. When I do introduce 40K players to it though, they get hooked. Mostly I play at home with a small group of friends and it's one of the few games that can keep my wife's attention.

I played with some guys in Chicago for part of last year, but I think I was the only one who was REALLY into the campaign. But with Adepticon coming up and real life, things just kind of got left alone.
If GW made more platform terrain I like to think people would buy it.

I like the buildings and hills, they are pretty good. GW does a good job with those things. I might pick up the buildings... I got enough hills to choke a horse.
I like the modular table idea, although I think the wavy cut out is silly. They should have made it six squares with a removable jigsaw piece in the middle of each side. Then they could have made and sold individual pieces with other terrain features (lakes, sand, snow, a pit), just to be able to mix it up.
Straight sides allows the players to put the board together anyway he/she likes. For the female slots, GW could have done stubby ends that make the end even.
But overall I like everything they've put out. And if its all plastic, it won't be that heavy compared to similar resin pieces.

Uh, you do realize that even with the 'wavy cut' you can mix up and add as many middle edge pieces as you want and if they were to make middle pieces with 'wavy cuts' on all sides they could be assembled in any configuration that you want.

Abhorrent Grotesque Aberration

As has been pointed out, I do think the "modular" terrain board is for people to set up games anywhere. Floor of the living room, bed, or wherever. They are not exactly aimed at people that already have gaming tables.
I have seen many companies do the same thing with the wavy boards. It always seems to help with how they fit together and get knocked about. A little more sturdy.
