Taking a break from my Rough Rider conversions I decided to try out a test camo scheme for my troopers: The pictures don't really do it justice. It looks so much more harsh here than in real life. My main concern is that there's too much green. One thought was to leave the armour black. Opinions?

Well, the uniform is a fairly standard woodland pattern except for the yellow. All of your proportion look about like I remember on the old bdus. The armor looks fine green, I think black would make the overall mini too dark. The casing of the lasgun however is what puts things over the top green wise. I would consider as black casing to bring it in line with most modern weapons.
All in all a good start get your trooper finished and based up because I would like to see your end results!

I like it! Clean, simple, and well delineated. I imagine that this is w/o shading/highlighting so, after that's done, this should look very striking. Good job.

If you're doing a full infantry company, kudos to you for the work it will take to do this to 50+ men and officers.
(quotes ancientsociety) Very good basic blocking out, ought to look almost exactly like actual military cammies once you get your inks on them.

Your colors are much too bright for camo. Check out the picture at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fa/BDUs-forest.jpg/180px-BDUs-forest.jpg and look how dark the camo is. Black Gobbo has a camo pattern and painting guild (for a tank) that you can compare with your scheme at, http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/imperialguard/painting/tanks/camo2.htmI tried to find the WD that had camo patters article in it, but I wasn't able to. Perhaps one of the other Dakkites has that info for you.

I like the camo, but I do think it is very green. While I don't recommend painting the armor black, I believe another color such as the brown taken from the camo would serve as a nice contrasting color. Good job!!

I love the cammo. I looks like you've got your work cut out for you though if youplan to paint them all the same way. I do think there is WAY to much green. Even your power pack lids, canteen straps and bayonette case are green. I would make either the clothes base or the armor a different color.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. It actually not that hard to paint the camo. I was surprised at how quickly it goes on. Though if I'll be saying the same thing after doing it 50-odd times is to be seen. I had a quick play in PSP to re-colour the armour. I think the black looks pretty good - almost gives it a SpecOps look. And once the other colours are on there (like the flesh and metallics on the weapon) it should stop the black being too overpowering. I'll paint up another guy with black armour and if the weather stays nice I'll try and get some pictures in sunlight to show the proper colours of the camo.
