Subject: World Eater: Dreadnaught or Predator?

Hi guys... I'm new to World Eater army. I'm having a dilemma between 2 predators or 2 dreadnaughts. The dreadnaughts I plan to equip them nothing else but CC weapons. Can you guys help me out here on where I should spend my money on??? Thanks.

As a WE player, you often need to kill fast-moving enemy vehicles--especially speeders that can outrun you and lead your raging guys around in pointless chases while his army shoots you up.
The WE army has two different ways of killing enemy fast vehicles: flying monstrous HQs, and predators.
Dreads are fun, but without predators you can expect to lose every game in which you are matched against a mechanized army, especially Eldar/Tau, or a player with a lot of speeders.

Not to jack the thread, but while on WEs, is it just me or are Berzerkers in every way inferior to Blood Angels Death Company? Other than to pop out daemons, I don't see much use for these guys. And BL are actually better for that since they can carry weapons that allow them to do something other than run after stuff they will never catch!

are Berzerkers in every way inferior to Blood Angels Death Company? Not every way: 1. You get to decide before the game exactly how many berzerkers you will have. 2. 1pt chainaxes for everybody who wants one.

I use all-lascannon preds. I find that WE assault troops have plenty of ability to take out things that heavy bolters kill--it's the high strength, AP2, long-range hitting power that they lack.

Both have thier uses. My personal preference is for the mobility that the Desrtoctor variant offers. The ability to stay on the move to hunt those tornadoes and get around terrain ect.

Why is it people think the legion specific armies cant do their jobs? My buddy plays a rather successful WE army, and I play Tzeentch which also has a very good W-L ratio. It's all about tactics and knowing the right composition to the army. Aztralwolf

Some people will handicap themselves at chess by spotting their opponent a rook or even a queen. Some people decide to play grey knights or thousand sons. It doesn't mean that both sides of the board were equal.

Would the 72" range of the Battlecannon on the Defiler be a good substitute for a predator?

Some people are fond of using a defiler and a single predator. The advantage of the battlecannon is not range, but rather indirect fire capability. This allows you, when faced by an opponent who clearly outguns you, to hunker down in a very un-Khornate way and try to smoke him out.
The disadvantage of a battlecannon is that it's only AP3, so it's nearly useless against terminators, big bugs, broadsides and other 2+ save units. Also its usefulness against vehicles is limited, since the template tends to scatter off.
The ideal would be two predators and a defiler, but that doesn't leave a lot of points for expensive WE troops.

Hmm, I was going to use the Defiler as sort of a stand in Leman Russ. With two of them, on opposite edges of the deployment zone deployed back as far as they can intersecting fire lanes with their battlecannons.
Is it worth it to chaosify the Predators? (Mutated Hull, demonic Possession) This does make them 200 points each.
I'll post an army list in the army list section so you can see what they would be complementing.

If you do two Dreads put them in Drop pods (Dread klaws) and then drop them into the emenys deployment zone, doesnt matter how you equipment them since Khorne has a better chance of blood raging ( do mark the dread for Khorne)
If you do the predators make them in the anti tank roll with twin link las and side las but dont make them give them marks.
thats what i would do, Plus the drop pods will give you cover for your troops for a few turns to run up....

Never give Chaos Dreads CC only weapons. If you get immobilised, that's it unless someone charges you. With a rnaged weapon you have more of a chance at still being useful.
