I was told that the icon thats in a chaos unit cannot move after it brings on a unit of demons. If this is so where is it in the codex?

It is not in the codex because the rule does not exist.

Ya so now im stuck with these idiots telling me that a unit cannot move after useing the icon. Because in the chaos book it says treat icons as heavy weapons for purposes of removing casualties.

Because in the chaos book it says treat icons as heavy weapons for purposes of removing casualties.

And how does "... for the purposes of removing casualties..." have anything to do with anything?

I'm with Ghaz.

Though, I'd love to see the line of reasoning behind their position....I've always wanted to see someone's pipe dream.

Heh, I may have to mess with some of my local Chaos players on this point.  "No way dude, you're a total cheater."

Hilarious!

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Enoch does live......

Im just going to tell these idiots that if they cant find it its not there. i get to move and shoot and assault as normal. they think its a heavy weapon thats there reasoning. And they think im to powerful when i am allowed to move and all else after summoning demons.
I tryed to tell them that the icon can be used in hand to hand even so how the F&c% is it considered heavy. Man and ive been playing chaos for years there just now trying to tell me they saw it in a faq or soemthing. SO as i said if you cant show me its not there.
The games on sunday so wish me luck smacking these hoooos down. 2500 points me and marines vs bugs and cron.

Anyway, just to clarify, the meaning of the quoted passage is simple.

If, during casualty removal (whether during shooting or close-combat) you are forced to or choose to remove the model carrying the icon, then the icon is lost (and may not be subsequently used), just as the squad would lose its heavy weapon if the model equipped with it were removed during casualty removal.

That is all the passage means.

I mean, seriously, do they think that if you shoot a las-cannon, then you can never move that squad again? That would be the logical extension of their seeming argument.

Not sure which printing, but from my C:CSM Codex, page 12.

"Any unit that bears a Mark of Chaos may have a basic icon at no additional points cost.... Any Chaos Space Marine model in the unit may carry its Icon, which should be shownon the model. If not carried by the unit Champion, treat Unit Icon bearers as heavy weapon troopers for casualty removal purposes."

Pretty straight forward. It is just saying that one model has to be designated as the bearer of the Icon, and it is treated as a "heavy weapon trooper for casualty removal purposes."

What does that mean? See page 26-27 in the BGB for the basics on casualty removal. In a nutshell, normal shooting cannot specifically target the Icon bearer, though ToF can.

Anyway, earlier today I think I understand where those other people's view about the Icon might be coming from. Hehehe....follow this misguided logic.

1. Summoning happens before the movement phase
2. You have to "use" the Icon to summon daemons
3. "treat the Icon bearer as [a] heavy weapon trooper[s]" {misquote intentional}

Therefore, if you summon daemons, you may not move or assault that turn.

5thElement, is that their contention?

If it is, I want some of their funny brownies.

Same here. Talk about selective use of rules interpretation.

What armies do they play and what units do they use? I am sure we can come up with just as a selective interpretation of the rules for their armies as they can for yours.

LOL its cool guys we won. They had no argument for me at all so someone must have done some reading on there own. We faced 2 monoliths on the cron side but the bugs messed up by makeing a very expensive fast unit of gaunts that paid for it when they got out of synapse and failed a morale check...Than i blundered hard useing the blasted standard against a huge unit of hormogaunts. The nid had 18 warriors on the board that got torn up by mass assault cannon fire and the cron command/warrior squad took a nasty beating from some termies and a callidus. I handled two lictors with a single unit of plague bearers and tore into necron hard towards the end with bloodletters. Letters and cron warriors is a bad time for the walking tin cans lol. Later my pred took out a monolith and my sorcy sacraficed a thrall and doubled up on winds of chaos at a massed up bunch of cron. At the end we were even on objectives so we went to points and won by over 300 points. Not a huge win but ill take it. Actually the book would say that 300 is a tie game but given a bit more time you could tell the cron were phase material. and the bugs were pretty tore up already.
