OK... don't have exact points values for this but I remember exactly what I use in my Thousand Sons, and would like some opinions on the list.

HQ- Lord of Change

Troop- 3x 9 Thousand Sons Marines- Upgrade to Aspiring for free.  One squad has daemon chains on the champ, the other two get power weapons and a psyker ability chosen by who I am playing b4 the match.

Troop- 2x 5 Horrors w/ 4 Flamer Daemon Packs.

Heavy- Land Raider with all the juicy upgrades Daemonic/Parasitic Possession etc.

I would like some advice on things to add.  I had been thinking about a defiler, and some screamers.  But all opinions are welcome.  As of now this armies record is 10-2 with several draws prolly around 3 or 4, havent kept track of those too well hehe.  I know alotta people will tell me that a land raider is a bit pricey and falls under the eggs in a basket rule, but I gotta tell you, it has only been blown up once in all the games I have used this army in, and was only worth less then max points one other time.

I plan to start up a TS army myself soon, but mainly play vanilla and IW chaos. So my suggestions are based on my limited use of rubrics, flamers and the lord of change. Have you had success with your daemons? I've only used flamers/horrors twice and they were close to wiped out by the 2 or 3rd turn. This could very well be due to my lack of experience with them. It might be worth it to gice your ACs a minor power as Reckoning seems like quite the bargain should you get it. Have you thought of using 1 or 2 chosen of Ahriman? I'm aware that you'd require opponents permission to use them but they seem to be an excellent and fluffy addition to the army. A defiler would be a great edition and give you some valued punch before the rubrics get into range. Screamers are fluffy and beautiful models, but I don't know if they're worth their points. However I've never used them myself, I'm just looking at what they cost vs. what they can do. One or two obliterators could be helpful. I don't use them myself even with my Iron Warriors, but they can be quite useful. A small power tooled unit of chosen might be a useful, though expensive prospect. A unit of 9 chosen with 3 winds of chaos, 3 doom bolts and 3 meltaguns greatly appeals to me. Very pricey but excellent horde, meq and tank killing utility. Just a few thoughts, hope they help.

I have had alotta success with the flamers/horrors... Though I usually end up getting only half points for them they do alotta damage to troops b4 anyone gets into assault with them.  I have thought about adding chosen but they are just SOOO expensive if you really make them worth it.  As far as screamers go... well I would like to add them so I would have some cover for my guys when assault enemies get close, but at 50$ US for 5 models, which means I will need to spend 100 to get a full squad... I haven't made that leap yet hehe.  I definitely want to add that defiler.  As far as Obliterator's go... I am pretty sure I can use them but whenever I try to make an army list with them using Enemies of the Imperium on my computer they aren't an option   so i am not sure I can have them.

I don't have the newest edition of the chaos dex, but theres nothing under the Thousand Sons list entry that prevents you from taking one unit of obliterators. It could be a bug in the program, though I've never used one of those programs myself. Chosen are expensive, but any marked unit of chosen are pricey. Possessed are even pricier, but give you much more close combat power in addition to your pyschic powers. After mulling it over I'd probably take the possessed instead of the chosen. I think the cost is worth it for the combat power it gives you. I'm thinking 9 possessed, 3 winds of chaos, an AC with power weapon and mutation at 368. It is a lot, but its not that much more than a unit of rubrics and can add a real scare to an opponent who just expects to encounter rubrics.

Yeah I am thinking about the possessed.... the whole making them sorcerers thing so I can give them the claws to have the extra CC attack and rending, but still be able to fire off some psychic shots in NICE.

Exept for the part where it says all units in a Thousand Sons army must have the mark of Tzeentch and any units that can't have the mark of Tzeentch can't be in the army.

(And then the other part where it says oblits can't have marks.)

I stand corrected sir.

However you could still take a Tzeentch army, just not pure TS. The loss of the free A.C. could be well worth one unit of obliterators.

Well I rattled off a expanded list last night... gonna go with possessed in a rhino with the talons, and given a few assorted psyker powers for a PUNCH.  And going to add one defiler.

Out of curiosity...why a land raider? Why not a daemonically possessed mutated hull Predator? Seems to me to be a better choice.

Well I actually went LR for several reasons...
1. I NEVER had any luck with them in a loyalist army, they just always blow up on turn one.
2. I just wanted the biggest pointiest, weirdest looking thing I could paint and model (I'll post a pic when I get a new Digi Cam)
3. A LR decked out is 345 pts... an all lascannon pred with all the same upgrades is 250pts.  for the extra 95 pts i get 2 better sides armor and 3 better rear armor.  Plus Infernal Device free, so with 3 twin linked weapons i stand a real chance of making good use of the device.

So lets say I wanna pump both those lascannons into the big ol' tank my buddy is fielding.  Well that heavy bolter is gonna go to waste this turn! I hate wasted weapons, so I notice a squad of troops infront of me as well and HB them with the ID, yeah its only hitting on a 5+ but its 3 shots and twin linked.  Or maybe I move and can only fire one main and my defensives... why not use that ID to pump that twin linked las into something else and hope to drop maybe another light vehicle or pick out a guy in a command squad .  It might see like the whole eggs in a basket thing, but I have found it to be the backbone of my 1KSons.

Oh and on another note... I may add a dreadnought to this army.... the warp flames upgrade would be cool to add to his, and it would be nice to have another CC wrecking machine to go with tweety.... either that or I will custom model my own sorcerer lord and jack him up with gifts and stuff... or both... I love modeling Chaos.

Well I played a 2v2 game tonight Khorne and my Tzeentch vs Tau and Marines.... I had a rather good night getting more VP then I gave... but my buddies Khorne army left it's nutsacks at home.  I have never seen him miss EVERY rage roll, and roll so many 1s&2s for armor saves....  All in all I was very happy with Tweety, 2 rubric squads, 1 stand in model possessed squad <my allstars of the nite> and my good old land raider that survived completely unscathed when faced with 3 tau tanks, and a 3 suit squad of broadsides .  The possessed will be a must buy for me next, as well as a defiler.  I think those will round out the army quite well.

Well you're already getting games in and such, but I thought I'd throw some comments out.

>>HQ- Lord of Change

Big Bird flames / bolts / spawns and smashes things.  Nice.

>>Troop- 3x 9 Thousand Sons Marines- Upgrade to Aspiring for free.  One squad has daemon chains on the champ, the other two get power weapons and a psyker ability chosen by who I am playing b4 the match.

Basic 1k Son squads, good stuff.  Give those 2 champs powerfists, and I would take bolt of change on the fist sorcerers.  IMHO it's bad practise to change your list to match your opponent, and the points also wouldn't come out the same

>>Troop- 2x 5 Horrors w/ 4 Flamer Daemon Packs.

Totally with you on mixed horror / flamer packs.  I actually use 3-3 squads with some luck, though you've got the happy 9 thing going here.

>>Heavy- Land Raider with all the juicy upgrades Daemonic/Parasitic Possession etc.

Aaaaahahaa good stuff!  I've got a Land Raider with demonic possession in my chaos army too, and get similar comments.  Frankly, I don't want to put any one in it because I want to be blasting away at max range!  That said, I'd keep the upgrades down to d.possession alone, giving you points to do other evil things with.

How many points are you going for total?  If you take the fists, bolts of change and the land raider with just d.poss then it's 1542 or something.  With a defiler, you might just have points for those possessed in 1850, but I don't think so ... You doing 2000 then?  And on the possessed, I'm glad you're doing them for the insane modeling potential, as they aren't too fantastic otherwise, especially in a rhino deathtrap

Only reason I change things up with is I don't really do the tournament thing due to a lack of support in my area.  I don't usually end up changing things too much though.  The points values change with my game group all the time though, sometimes its 500 per person sometimes its as much as 3000 per person, thats why I am choosing as many options as I can.

Wow did this army get boned tonight!  Played a 3 way FFA, 1Ksons vs. Khorne vs. Iron Warriors.  My only real glory was blasting part the IW's Land Raider on T1.  After that both of my opponents decided it would be fun to tag team rape me.  5 whole turns and they never even took a single shot or swing at each other.  Despite it all I got as many VP as I lost, which is to say ALOT   My finest hour was it taking I think it was somewhere around 7-9 pen hits to drop my LR.  That being only his second or third time being destroyed I am quite happy.  Biggest lesson learned is my need for more CC protection.  Once my Lord of Change failed 4 armor saves in a row I was sunk in CC defense.  The Possessed worked good when I tried them, but I am debating trying chosen.  Anybody with more chaos play time give me some advice on models to points spending ratio in a chosen squad? I dont wanna waste points, but I also dont wanna underpower them.

Wow, Khorne and Iron Warriors ganging up on 1k Sons?  I'd shake my head, except you seem to hold your own against these guys enough to warrant a combi-beatdown

On CC protection and chosen, I say don't do the chosen.  I've never really found any real 'cost effective' use for them, apart from terminators.  Speaking of which, here what I say you take:

9 1k Son Terminators - Sorcerer w/ bolt of change & warp focus, chainfist & mutation = 432 points

Yeah, that's drunkenly expensive (I think my points are right, 41 points for a 1k Son Terminator?) but that's the maximized, total power Chaos terminator squad in my mind.  From here you can cut it down to less points, with a minimized version looking like:

6 1k Son Terminators - Sorcerer w/ bolt of change, chainfist = 307

The max squad gets you 17 2/5+ wounds with 16 power weapon attaks and 5 chainfist attaks (remember to keep the sorcerer's power weapon, not combi-bolter) that throws 8 or 16 twin-linked S4 Ap5 shots & 1 S8 AP2 shot, with a max range of 25 - 30" to reach into enemy deployment zones.  The min squad is still 11 2/5+ wounds with 10 power weapon attaks and 4 chainfist attaks, 5 or 10 combi-shots and the BoC armor breaker.

Start 'em on the board and shuffle forward or hold your zone, or deep strike them for maximum carnage where needed.  I'm guessing your chosen squad would have cost in the high 200 point range, so think about your 1k Son terminator squads instead
