well there are three ways you can go....

the Pink way which makes your army looks girlish, the purple way which will remind you of the Prince and purple rain , or the black and purple / or black and pink way.
Ive done mine the pink way at first then half way thur the army i went too a light purple almost purplish grey( mixed imperial purple with space wolf grey) then did a purple ink over the models. Gave them a almost glowing appearance with tin blitz/ new gold trim.

I play emporer's children, since like 1988, before they where pink and black. Infact, I refuse to use it, so I made mine pre heresy emporer's children. They where purple with gold highlights, and IMO they look world's different that pink and black.

Conscidering that until 3rd edition came out, all the fluff put them in all soft pastel colors, never black. Black is too plain.
