Hello, I was wondering if anybody here plays with the armored battlegroup rules from Imperial Armor Volume I, and if they had any tactical advice to share. Alternatively, they could maybe point to a site with this info? Thanks

7 Russes + Slick Loader = 14 Pie-Plate Alpha Strike that few can withstand. Failing that, a couple of Griffons with Infernus Shells outta win you any game you play against non-Fearless troops. BYE

Good. They make any unit hit, and wounded I think, by an infernus shell make a fall back move.

Well, any of the Newer Imperial Amour updates or Imperial Armour books should have them in it. I'm not sure what the most up to date book is, but I'm sure some one around here knows.

They're in Imperial Armour. Basically they have the same profile as the vehicle firing them (So S6 AP4 in the case of a Griffon). If you hit, the opposing unit makes a Fall Back move. That's hit. You don't even have to kill anything. Seriously unfair things... you can heard entire Necron armies off the table. BYE

BYE FYI, In the IA1 FAQ on the forgeworld website, they make it (much more) clear that slick loaders can only be used once per game. It's still a good ablility (especially on the first turn), but it's not as bad as it was first thought to be.

I think that was his point - alpha strike is typically used as slang for first turn opening fire support. In this case, 14 pie plates, even if only used once, are going to leave a mark. The list sounds alot worse than it is. I mean, how many opponents will actually let you maximize on that kind of an alpha strike, I dont think will happen all that often, maybe just once. And then only if youre lucky with the 'who goes first' roll. Infernus shells are good, makes up for the lack of infantry and then some.

Considering that I've always seen and used it as a 'one shot only' ability, just like it says in IA1, that has no bearing on my opinion of it. As I said, it's a 14-pie plate Alpha Strike. After that you rever to normal guns. BYE

Along these lines do ya think a vulture with 6 heavy bombs would make its points back (160) if you dropped all the bombs as one large barrage on a non-marine infantry heavy force. That's 6 pie plates Str 6 Ap 4 pieplates linked together. I've trying to figure out how to make it worth its points b/c its a damn sharp model but the rocket pods are worthless and most of the weapons are overpriced. Slick loader on seven tanks. wow! costly but devastating. 115 point for three required tank commanders. 1015 points for five leman russes with hull hb's. 140 points for seven slick loaders. In a 1500 point list that leaves 230 points for changes like the use of vanquishers ...or the purchase of a commissar's tank with slick loader and replacing the hull hb on the commander and commissar with hull lascannons. 16 pieplates, 1st turn in a 1500point list. You may not have much staying power but after that much ordnance neither will your opponent.
