Subject: Looking for a sculptor...

Hey gang... I am looking for the talents of someone who can do some sculpting work for me. Specifically, I need 8 heads done. Lion/Lioness heads. 28mm ogre-class scale+. Basically, I am looking for the size of heads that would look appropriate on a GW Yhetee body or a Confrontation Wolfen body. I need them for a project I am working on, and my sculpting/greenstuff skills are only adequate for things like clothing and accessories...not for detailed heads. I have searched through a lot of different mini producers looking for minis to cut the heads off, but everything is either too small (ala a Reaper phase cat, winged tiger, lioness, etc.) or vastly too expensive to cut the head off of. I'm hoping someone can help me out. If you can, e-mail me at igau@aol.com and we'll chat about specifics, cost, all all the neat details. I'll be happy to send a body to you so you have something to work from. I'm going to post this in both the Trade and the Modelling forums, as I'm not sure which is more appropriate.

Just for reference, what can one expect to have to pay for a comission piece from one of the sculptors here? I'm not looking for quotes, just an indicator of what I should expect should I decide to get a 40k character done.

for a character you can expect to pay anything from $100-400 depending on what you want done...
Insaniak has very reasonable prices for great results.

The cost of 8 bitz'd models will be significantly less expensive than the services of a sculptor.

Crocodile Games Lions/Lionesses? Too small. Reaper Lions, Lionesses, Winged Tigers, Phase Cats? Too small. I've looked at several other manufacturers as well. No one makes anything big enough, or, if it is big enough (such as a Chimera or some such), its far too expensive (and way too much work) to buy and hope I can manage to cut the head off and use it. Anyone else know of a good mini line that might work?

how about this? The mane looks quite lionish and you could easyily green stuff the face to give it a lion nose.

I'm going to try this again. For whatever reason I've been getting errors when I've tried to reply.
Since you're working with larger models in the heroic 28mm scale, how about trying some children's toys? Surely as a child you must have played with or seen the cheap plastic animals that are commonly sold at zoos and museums (and if not there, perhaps a train store or a doller store). Remember, they were inexpensive and were often packaged like the little green army men? Give those a shot.

I've been hunting for those, actually, as well, but, surprisingly, the local toy stores I have been to SUCK. Damn, that was a lot of commas. And I am wary of buying such things off the web, sight unseen. I would really like to be able to hold it, check the size, look at the detail, etc. before I drop hard-earned cash on plastic toys. I was thinking maybe action figures of some sort too. You know, like the old He-Man series with the green tiger model, or something similar. Is anyone familiar enough with such things to suggest a good place to start looking? And thanks for the ideas so far, everyone.
