Hey guys,
I've been building a modest guard force for a few months now (metal valhallans) and been getting a good amount of inspiration from here.
I've been sharing the progress with friends on Facebook and I thought it was about time I joined the ranks of project logs on here. I've got a huge amount of inspiration from lots of the blogs, so thanks to lots of people I don't know.
So, here we are, the first model I have to share is my deathwatch captain. He's pretty much done bar some minor GS work.
I've expanded the force recently to include all sectors of the emporium, so expect a lot of different stuff.
As for the model himself, I've got for a superscale for my deathwatch (while truscaling all my other marines). I wanted a fairly commanding but slow and purposeful pose, and I can tell you it was a right turd to get! Straight legs are difficult.
Also uploaded a scale photo, with Superscale on the left, my normal truescale in the middle, and an ordinary marine on the right

More you shall get!
Here's a shot of a truescale sergeant. He's on a 25mm base, as opposed to the DW cap's 40mm

I do like the look you are going for here. Seems really natural. Is it possible to get some sort of Tutorial on how you truescale your marines. From what I can tell you just add spacers at the thigh and shin areas.

Yeah, I'll do my best in the coming week.
As a quick text one:
Superscale (Deathwatch) have spacers in thigh, shin and waist. They are on 40mm bases
Truescale (everyone else) have spacers in thighs and waist. They are on standard 25mm bases.
Everything else is standard, though for the heads I've used guard, bretonnian, empire etc as I think the SM heads are too big.
The scaling itself is pretty simple, and I'm really glad I've done it. The natural look is definitely something I was shooting for, so I'm glad you said it!
Scaling also means that all the badass accessories finally look right! I've had to order tons from bitz sites!

I am really liking what you are doing with your marines and it is making me want to do my Battle Company all over.
As for the Spacers, what is the measurement on them or do you eye ball it?

I've been wanting to do a new marine army for a while, ever since I sold the last one really, but I knew I wouldn't like them if they were out of scale with my guard army... so I saw that very blog you were talking about but over on Heresy Online (where I've given the man full credit for inspiring me). I did loads of research, and hated the truescaling with terminator parts... just looks... unrealistic. And given that 'realism' was my aim... Veteran Sergeant solved the problem for me! What a don!
The spacers are cut out of an A4 piece of plasticard I had lying around, and just happened to be the perfect thickness! Sometimes, to get the right pose, I used odds and sods of plastic I find lying around to fill in til I GS the gaps, but by and large, its just the plasticard.

Great work on these guys, very characterful.
I've toyed around with short scaling my marines, one of the primarchs that are missing had to be the runt of the litter.

Short scaling?
On another note, here are two more deathwatch members...
Any votes for what chapters these two should be would be welcome.

I need some good second founding chapters... not using anyone else's homebrew...
Here's another model... my test for the Valhallan. Like the scheme?
Just realised this is an old photo. The gun casing now is a lighter green than the jacket. The helmet is the same green as that.

Its been a while, and I've done a huge amount which i'll endeavour to update here over the weekend...
The vision for this army has spread into a crusade taking in all sections of the Imperium. So my deathwatch will be joined by an inquisitor and retinue from the ordo xenos.
I'm going to add in some grey knights, mechanicus troops and more guard, all under the umbrella of an ordo malleus inquisitor lord.
So for now, I present my test scheme for my skitarii, the models are tox troopers from anvil industries.
I've also included some group shots of my Valhallans, though its not a great set of pictures
