Building my new 1750 eldar army, i noticed the model count is only 42. Weather its because i used to be an ork player, it seemed to me 42 might be low. So i ask you what is a good model count for a 1750 list? discount horde armies, nids, orks, infintry heavy guard. For Marines For Eldar For Necrons For Tau? Mech and None Mech lists.

My 1850 pt Eldar list which is mostly mech has 42 models.9 of which are bikes, 5 are vehicles, and 28 are infantry models. At 1500 this drops to 34. My 1500 pt DH list has 47 models, 3 of which are vehicles. My 1500 pt WH list has 57 models, 5 of which are vehicles. This is a mech list as well. My 1500 pt SM list has 40 models, 2 of which are vehicles, and 8 are bikes. I don't know if these are good or not, but I like to think that the lists are somewhat competative, but not min/maxed to any serious degree.

My marines usually hover around 30ish points per model. Well, 25-35 really, depending on the level of mechinization in the list. Mech Eldar usually will have lower model counts than a Mech Marine list, since their vehicles cost so much more than a marine equivalent. In other words, if you're playing a mech eldar list, then you're probably all right. If you're going the foot route, then you're probably missing some necessary numbers.

It's not how many models you have, it's how you use them. Seriously though, size matters. You have been weighed, measured, and found wanting. Get more models!

Marines @ 1750 are usually between 35-50 models, with the high end of the range going to drop pod lists, which can field more models, or low-mech and low-terminator lists.
Eldar hover above 35-40, depending on the number of grav tanks and Guardians. If an Eldar player wants to, though, they can come close to the numerical superiority of Guard by fielding many, many Guardians with a few Wraithlords and Vypers in support.
My Guard at 1750 are at least 55 models, usually a lot more, up to 65-75. But then, individual Guard squads are bloody cheap. If the player is using odd doctrines, they can hit either end of the range, though -- a Mechanized Grenadier list can be quite small indeed, and a Camelioline Infantry list can outnumber any other list out there.

my 2k point army list so far has 70+ models in it....my old DA list has nearly 90 models (shooty, no vehicles min maxing and all that jazz) 42 does seem low, which is no good because that means that your guys are point heavy, you have too many vehicles, or your are buying toys with too few boys. As a SM you need to be able to claim objectives and with only 42 models to do it, you are vastly outnumbered against MOST armies. I would suggest maybe around 50-55 models in a 1750 pt list but without knowing your list that projection is difficult to stick to. If you are a shooty list you should have way more models, if you are doing something with vehicles then understandably you'll have less models, and that makes sense.

42 does seem low, which is no good because that means that your guys are point heavy, not true at all ATI i love small elite armies and i win with them. some people prefer horde style armies like you, some prefer vehicle heavy or tooled out squads or multiple HQs etc...it depends on what you like and how it works for you. my old ravenwing list had 27 models and i won most of my games against all opponants. my friends IW list has like 24 models and kicks arse routinely. never assume low model count is bad. it works for greyknights, iron warrors, tau, eldar, thousand sons, deathiwng and ravening(not as much with the new dex though) if you build a good list.

Whoops read the OP wrong, thought he said SM's not Eldar.... 42 points on Eldar seems low to me just because their average units cost much less. 42 sounds about right for a SM list but hey who knows. Without an army list its hard to judge what is the right move models wise. Of course you could be playing Saim Han Eldar and that has a low model count but is mostely bikes and vehicles. Just be careful because less models could make it harder to take objectives in some scenarios. I do have to admit though, I very much love swarm space marines.

My foot slogging eldar is only 62 models but I do think it needs some more work. Eldrad, Farseer, 12 SC, 20 DA, 18 Rangers, 12 SH.4 WW. I am currently working on a new list of 2 Autarchs, 12 SC, 10 DA +WS, 4 GJB, 3 Shining Spears, 12 SH, 4 Dark Reapers. 4 WW. I probably will pull the WW's for another 10 DA with WS. My ld tau had 36 FW's, 24 Pathfinders, 2 SGaso, 6 Stealth suits, 1 Hammer head, 1 Broadside, 10 kroot. and 2 devil fish
