Hi Guys

I just wanted to start a thread based on my latest project. We all have our limitations and I am well aware of my own.....soo, with this in mind I have commissioned a sculptor to begin work on, what I hope, will be the beginnings of a truely individual Grey Knights army.

I wanted to start with a Grand Master because I feel although the miniatures from GW are cool as....they haven't provided enough characters or varying miniatures to represent certain characters. If you put aside Cpt Stern there really is no miniature "grand" enough to represent a Grand Master and this is a shame as the title suggests so much in the Codex.

The other issue I wanted to deal with was scale. Grey Knights tend to be a relatively small army ( from a Space Marine ) persepctive, and are usually fielded with allies from Imperial Guard, etc.....according to the Codex you can't play GK and SM in the same army. This presented me with an amazing opportunity to play with scale. My intention is to create an army of these GK scaled to be "fluff" wise correct in relation to human IG.

I'll be posting pictures as they are sent to me, and would appriciate any feedback on the ideas as they flow!

Thanks for reading.

Hi Torealis

I'm running with Scibor, I'm sure you've heard of him

Hopefully based on the outcome of this miniature, I'd like to plan more work with him, especially creating the standard Grey Knights in Power Armour. I hate the power armoured GK, they look sooo inferior to normal Marines, and this is omething I'd like to recitify, aswell as upping their scale!

I did play with the idea of simply getting a sculptor to resculpt the current GK Termies into the "improved" scale, and that may still happen. It depends on the I.P issues, but we'll see! if there is a problem with doing that I may well get a sculptor to do something "similar"

Another area I'd really like to deal with in the "new" miniature sculpts is dynamic movement. Some of GW newer miniatures are getting more dynamic in their poses, like the new SM Librarian in Terminator armour. And I'd like to apply this level of dynamics or better to the GK miniatures.....

Sounds like you wanted the kind of GK that I did. I made (and currently continue to make) them myself though. I'm looking forward to seeing what scibor turns out.

Please feel free to post pictures of your miniatures on this thread, or a link to them! I'd love to see what you have done especially as it will generate further ideas for my own legion

Did you also go for a larger scale ( accurate scale ) or did you work with the GW scaling?

Good luck with the project – I thought I'd chime in with a couple of suggestions.

1) Grey Knight Terminators. I always loved the half-masks that the original Grey Knights had – have you considered translating these across?

2) There was a fantastic piece of artwork in the Space Hulk expansion 'Genestealer' by Mark Gibbons (I think), showing a Grey Knight blocking a psychic blast from a genestealer magus. While this might not be very practical as a miniature, it's pretty inspiring source material!

Best of luck, and keep us updated!

Interesting take. I like some of it, though parts of the armor look soft if you get my meaning. Still a cool sculpt.

For some reason, unlike 99.99% of other forums out there, Dakka requires you to use HTML code tags, (not the UBB [img] tags you attempted to use) or to use the "reply" function and insert the images by clicking on the the "sun over the hills" icon (third row, first icon) in the embedded text editor. This is sheer awesomeness...!

The true scale theme sounds very promising, always puts me off how puny the power armored marines are. The "softness" of the armor is supported by the greenstuff, i guess. especially the upper leg area seems to be made of some sort of leather. I think after a decent paint job, the armor will look hard as nails.

Oh I just noticed, where is his stormbolter?
He has this special psychic power that has the following stats: 24" range S:4 AP:5 Assault 2 It requires no psychic test (instead "test" by rolling to hit using models BS characteristic for each shot), may be used only in his shooting phase, and may be used in addtion to any other psychic power (so long as said power also isn't used in the shooting phase).

His stormbolter is there, except instead of being a strormbolter it's a bolt pistol, and instead of pointing forward it's facing directly down the shaft of the force weapon.

EDIT: and also, is this the guy that uses computer generated molds to do a lot of the armor he makes? That could explain why some parts look soft - they'd be sculpted instead of molded.

Ok, well....the bolt pistol isn't a bolt pistol at all. Obviously Scibor has used the geometry of the bolt pistol to create the basis for the Force weapon the Grand Master would be expected to use. I think you guys are confusing the Force Weapon used by Adeptus Custodes as they have the Bolter attached to the end of the Force staff, this Grand master isn't a member of the Adeptus Custodes.

I'm extremely happy with this sculpt, and appreciate the constructive views most members have put forward regarding the miniature. I also understand that you can't please all the people all of the time, and I would welcome any ideas or suggestions for future sculpting projects.

As far as the "soft look" on the armour, allot of the detailing will come when it is painted, and I feel confident the armour will reflect its hard nature.

Once again, thanks for the feedback!

you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!
