Here ya go, folks!

Very good write-up by Dave Taylor.  Excellently handled on the player feedback front, and in terms of addressing concerns and issues from the event.  Fully explained the scoring issue as well.  Very well done.  And finally set a rule regarding people attending with unpainted armies. I just hope it's not too much effort to track.

GORGEOUS photos!  Truly excellent.

Great job on this coverage from everyone involved.

The Players' Choice armies look really neat. I'm always a fan of grots, and that Empire army, while not really well painted by 'up close' standards, is very well modeled and executed.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

The pictures are nice.

And serious kudos to Dave Taylor for owing up to the issues they had and pointing out they way forward!   That's got me excited about the GT season again.

Nicely done Dave!

First, it's encouraging to see negatives acknowledged and quality solutions to problems put forth.  Can't ask for more than that!  Nicely done!

What boggles my mind is that some chode would show up to a GT with an unpainted army.  To me, that's just extremely rude to everyone involved, especially the organisers who then have to make a tough decision (because they're nice guys; would not have been tough for me).  What was the story on that?  Did the person simply not read the rules, or was he/she really lazy?

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I'm surprised at the amount of Necron players, although the first 6 spots were taken by Marine or Chaos players. Nice to see lots of different Chaos Legions represented. Pity they're all about to become illegal.

yeah, interesting statistics. 5 of the top 10 battle points were Eldar. Nidzillas didnt do so well in this event.

Also, did anyone see the new Dark Angels socring well? Nope, they didnt even get in the top half of battle points. I guess the balancing act isnt going all that well so far.

Don't know what the story there was, mate, but there was actually two armies I would've thrown out.

The Empire army that was unpainted was also Unprimed. That's right, he showed up with straight metal. Should've been kicked.

There was also a Dwarf Slayer's army that showed up. It had been primed black, and had had the hair painted orange and the skin painted a flesh tone. Technically three colors (black everywhere else). However, there was no detail between anything not flesh or hair, and the flesh and hair were both just one color. Very disappointing compared to all the other armies there.

Great event though. I'm glad to hear about them fessing up to the problems and wanting to work them out. Good show!

Some beautiful armies there, and some great people. Most fun I've had this year.

Ya know, I remember when you weren't chaotic unless you had at least 3 eyes, some kind of grotsque extra limb, and your blood was at least boiling acid. Apparently all need these days to be chaos is some skulls and an arrow on your forhead. - Kaile Bloodhammer

Those helms really add so much.  The walking dead is one thing.  But put helmets on them so that we can't see their non-existent faces?  Oh yeah!

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Great to see (official GW) coverage of a GT! I've really missed that the last year or two.
The solution for the unpainted armies sounds well-conceived, IMO. I'm liking the vibe I'm getting from Dave Taylor and crew. Hopefully this signals a more general recommitment to events from USGW.

With 80 battle points I am wondering what type of guard this guy was playing.

I think he put up a battle report. If it was the guy i am thinking, he played pretty standard gaurd with an inquistor for the hood and tarrot + mystics, some dropping suicide squads, tnaks and las plas squads. pretty standard.

Nope.

@Reece, This guy played and beat Todd (Cypher) with an all drop-troop list that had over 40 plasma guns and the demo charge thingies. I played another guy who had a similiar list in the third round. 160 models, 49 plasma guns and 6 melta guns in 19 units. That was the attacker/defender mission that everyone hated. I chose defender. Brutal game.

Any possibility of a Batrep from you?

I have to live vicariously through the tournament players since I wasn't able to participate.
