The game board looks a little odd...I'm not sure how we got it that way, but after moving stuff around and ending up with that, it seemed about as fair as you could get.

My basic plan was to protect the basilisks, or, failing that, make him commit so much to killing them that he'd open himself up to massed lascannons, where I could remove his mobile killers (Hammerheads) and then just waltz up the board and outscore him on my strong left flank.

So, there you have it....the center and left bristling with guns, basically giving up the right flank.  He has the stealths, commander, a piranha, hammerhead, a crisis team and devilfish all piled into his left.

Roll for first turn, and I get it.  Despite the mission, I figure I'll take the first turn and see what kind of damage I can do while the skimmers are stationary.

Turn 1 IG

I move up my vets and rough riders, let everything else fire.  I wasn't sure about the vets, but their guns needed to be close to work, and if something moved out to shoot them, I'd get to shoot back...seemed like a good trade to me.

Of the whole clump on his left flank, my first bassi shot manages to scatter the only way possible to miss everything.  The second penetrates the devilfish and annihilates it, killing all the firewarriors on board.  The explosion kill a stealth suit.  Shoot down the other devilfish (barely), and the firewarriors dump out, pinned.

(Turn photos are all at the very end of the players' turn)

Turn 1- Tau

At this point, I think my opponent decided to go all out.  He turbo-boosted his piranhas forward and detached their drones to mess with my targeting checks and block LOS.  The crisis team in the middle (by the building) blow my first basilisk up with a pen 6, which removes the vehicle and allows the hammerhead to blow the gun off the second one.  So much for that plan...
Lost troops here and there to submunitions, but nothing too bad.

Turn 2 IG

Continued the advance.  Rough riders charged the firewarriors and cut them down when they rout (lost two in the process).  Shot down one hammerhead (middle one) and stunned the other.  Failed several targeting checks...that was extremely annoying.  Shot down one piranha and messed up another.

Turn 2  Tau

As you can see, my right flank dissolves under the Tau attack.  The crisis suits and stealth suits made easy work of them.  More thinning out with the submunition from the good hammerhead.

Turn 3 IG

Downed the piranha and stunned the hammerhead.  Didn't want to shoot him with my vets...figured they'd be a scoring unit, and didn't want to lose precious models to plasma overheating.  My rough rider squad got a poor fleet roll, so couldn't reach his crisis team....or the safety of the building.  Figured my basilisk might make a good scoring unit, so it moved up.  Also moved a few squads on my left to get some more scoring units.

Turn 3 Tau

Yup...the rough riders get smoked by the crisis team.  His strong left flank is getting to scoring position, but is out of position to shoot much due to the woods.

Turn 4 IG

Advance some more, stun the far hammerhead and kill the close one.

Turn 4- Tau

His suits in the woods shoot some guys up, wiping out an AT team on top of the building.

Turn 5 IG

We wipe out the crisis suits in return, continue the advance.

Turn 5, Tau

I've pretty much left my center alone....good bait for him to attempt to target (instead of focusing on staying in my deployment zone), and hopefully take out that stupid piranha.  His commander hops out and blasts the company HQ...and rolls four 1s out of his six shots, and rolls a further 1 to wound.  Probably the absolute worst rolling I've ever seen....thankfully for him it wasn't on anything too critical.

Turn 6 IG

I have two goals this turn....advance into his deployment area some more, and kill his piranha.  After 3 lascannons, a missile launcher and a rapid firing plasma gun....it's still there.  His decoy launchers saved it, actually.

Turn 6 Tau (packed up my basilisk prior to this picture).

I think he actually forgot about the objective for a bit in his haste to blast my center (which he did).  He didn't move the hammerhead (we did after the fact in the picture to see if it could have scored...it couldn't).  He jumped his stealth teams out, too, to shoot up my guys, leaving them out of scoring.

He had the crisis team and piranha in my deployment area, while I had my rough riders, two squads of vets and a basilisk in his area (the other squads were only half in).

It was a heck of a battle.  Had a lot of fun, though...we'll see how the rematch goes!
