Hiya guys, with the Celtos chickadee mostly done I've started on a new idea I've wanted to do. I've moved on to redoing my ork zeppelin in a way that I am happier with it. I've done up some quick concept sketches and started on the main body of the balloon. This is more how I wanted the original to look, so it's coming along way better than the other one so far! Here's some pics: Original zeppelin: Da Orkenburg concept: That's just a block of foam! Not for long Some stabilising fins And done with the patchwork bits

Wow, that is a nic looking scratch build, really nice. when you put some pain on it it will look great.
The only problem is that from the angle you took the top picture at, and the fact that it is all grey, the model looks like it has legs at first glance, but upon closer inspection you can tell that it if meant to be floating above a ruined building.
Paint will fix that up no problem, and a different angle on the photo as well.
But on the whole, really cool!

Maybe too late, and maybe not something that appeals to you, but I think it'd be hilarious to have the zepplin be made of metal plates. Nothing says Ork to me quite like a lighter than air vehicle that's not lighter than air, and instead floats on the bouying force of Ork willpower.

Looks nice!
Kind of reminds me of the Blimp that they had in the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.
I especially like the patch-worked-material look of the blimp-proper.

I've thought about adding stitching but honestly, I think it's too much work.... Maybe I'll reconsider. The worst part is now I have this ABSOLUTELY brilliant necron idea that I've been toying with for ages that I've finally got a concept for. So now I'm like "C'mon, c'mon finish already!!!!" lol

Okelly dokelly! MOre updates to the krazy orky zeppelin-ness....and fun with a dremel.... Today I got built the main structure of the undercarriage, ready to mount in the tesla zzap gun. I love dremels. I've yet to decide whether I want to add a roll cage to the passenger carriage or not, dunno if it'll look too busy with it or not. And I have yet to add the Burna/Skorchas to the sides. Then....RIVETS.... That'll be time consuming. Enough ramble, here's the pics: Braces, brackets and sewerage pipes.... Front of the undercarriage, nice and SPIKEY - and all dremelled to HELL Under the passenger compartment, where the wild teslas roam... Inside Concept of the two together. Hence why I'm not sure if the roll cage will work or not.... That's it for now....till tomorrow!

well with such a detailed bottom, you need to balance out the top..with..i dont know...stitch marks or something?*wink wink* jk,but really, one or two nailed down or stitched down panels will put it together and add surface rise for the visual effect. How are you planning to hang of the carriage? With think sting or more like a construct to hold it well in place?

There'll definitely be stacks upon stacks of rivets, both on the top section and the bottom section. That's a given. I'm also going to be adding grots and orks crawling all over the blimp as well which will add plenty of extra effect, but we'll see how the rest goes. I'm a bit of a stickler for visual balance so we'll see what I need to do to work it today. The intention is to hang the balloon by chains with a couple of hose looking rods to add to the support. On to the project!

Rightio....I've done a stack of work on the zzap gun on the front. Cant' decide if I want it to have big balls or not.... Have a look and lemme know what you reckon: Here's the zep put together. Most of what needs to happen now are some extra gubbins, pilots, gunners and various psychotic leapin orks....oh and the base of course

I agree, a metal 'crown' would be better, whatever you add it should be only slightly wider than the barrel.

Ok, construction is complete. The only thing left undone is the grot paint-crew on the side of the balloon arguing about paint and stuff. I've pretty much decided to leave it off since it'd be over the top. Here's the final pics before painting. I relented and riveted the hell out of it , the rivets on the balloon aren't as easy to see as the ones on the rest coz they're made out of a thinner material than the major rivets. So now I've gotta undercoat it and paint. That'll be happening later on, probably after I get Yidhra done....however I've also got another project I'm going to start in the middle of doing the Yidhra one, since you have to wait so long in between sculpts on greenstuff. Oh, and then there's the WAU modelling comp.... : lol:

Well, for what it's worth, I don't think the Grot painters would be too over the top. I mean, they're orks. EVERYTHING'S over the top with them.
Awesome stuff. I'm a big fan of your conversions!
