I apologize if this is old news, but I haven't seen anything about it on Dakka yet, and I figured you guys would be interested. I was at the LGS in Munich today, and talked to the store owner. He told me that in September Privateer Press is going to be raising their prices in Germany (so I assume that these means the whole EU.) Battle boxes are currently 40 Euro, and will be increasing to 50 Euro, which is significant. Some other things will be increasing anywhere from 1 to 5 Euro. Not everything is increasing, but a lot of stuff is, especially boxed sets. He showed me the press release from PP, and the list of all the items that were affected (and those that were not) but I'm sorry I don't have an exact list. When I asked him if prices were going to be raised in the US, he said he wasn't sure. Again, sorry if this is old news, but I figured if it's not, it's important enough to mention again.

I wonder if the cost of metal and labour are really increasing that much? That is quite a jump on the boxes.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. |

The guys at the shop said that supposedly the price of pewter has gone up 250%, but they all seemed to be skeptical and thought it was just PP's excuse to bump up the prices. Personally, I don't really know. If it's really gone up that much, that really sucks. If not, well....I wish PP would just be straight up about it. As I said, I don't really know at this point.

Maybe they think their customers are price insensitive. Oh wait, that's that other company. No, wait, but these guys raise prices too? I'm confused. I thought PP was 'by gamers, for gamers'. How could they?!? *world crashes down around ears* So, does that mean those cavalry models that are $20 a piece went up in price? If so, ouch.

Prices went up recently in the US. Battleboxes for WM used to be 40 bucks but went up to 50 bucks. Everything that used to have old prices were raised to match current prices for certain figures.
Value is subjective. People who like Warmachine/Hordes feel like they're getting more value for 50 bucks than they are for a unit box of 50 bucks, probably because they can use those pieces almost immediately in their armies (that's how I feel). You don't have to buy multiple units of the same thing for rank and file numbness of painting/modeling.
People who like 40k/WHFB like the options they get in a plastic kit. Conversions are easier, the games allow for a lot of swapping items, heads, weapons, accessories. And the plastic kit is 35-50 bucks.
I like both, but I admit I spend more money on Privateer Press.

Yeah, I had assumed/hoped that the US prices would stay the same, since they recently raised some of the stuff. The only thing is that the higher Euro prices are making them much more expensive in Europe. For example, a 50 Euro battle box is currently worth about $68 in US dollars.

I do believe white metal has gone up quite a bit. I'm not a trader though.. Regardless, it is pretty easy to jump into Warmachine. I've been considering giving it another shot..and hell after a battlebox and few blisters you really have enough to play. I just couldn't stand how much infantry dominated the game. I like big metal steam robots throwing each other around and bashing metal/flesh. I didn't dig watching infantry dismantle jacks so easily. My friend is constantly trying to convince me that trample is all that and jacks are decent now...but I'm not seeing it. Oh well, it's just money

The guys at the shop said that supposedly the price of pewter has gone up 250%, but they all seemed to be skeptical and thought it was just PP's excuse to bump up the prices. Well, if you look HERE you will see where three different manufacturers (Crocodile, Heresy and Reaper) are raising prices due to an unprecedented increase in the price of raw materials just this year.

I seem to remember almost the same conversation about 3 years ago with GW. although the pewter was only 150% increase then. most everyone assumed then too that is was just GW's excuse to raise prices as well. the more things change, the more they stay the same. Looks like even after leaving GW, Mike Mcvey still likes to be like big brother. doh!!

Is it just the battle boxes going up? Is this just mainland europe (euroland) or the UK as well?

All I heard about were European (Euro) prices, specifically Germany. I assume that means all EU countries who use the Euro will be affected. As the UK doesn't use the Euro, I have no idea whether or not this will affect them.

And of course as usual no one knows squat about Ireland. Country with the largest number of independant games cons per head of population that I know of, and yet the various gaming companies seem to forget about us... Or include us in the UK, I'm not sure which is more annoying.
