I'm heading up to Minneapolis on business for a few weeks. Are there any game stores in the area I should check out? Any outstanding stores that are a 'Do Not Miss' kind of game store? Also, are there any good comic book stores in the area? Thanks!

Well, Phoenix games was the place to go to, but it closed its doors after 20+ years. Lots of shops in the area though, I recommend going here for good advice on the gotta see stuff. I am really new to the twin cities, so they would be better able to help you out. www.adeptusminneapolis.com/forums/index.php

Tower Games just opened this weekend in response to Phoenix games closing is doors.
Its a great shop. Very clean, placed in an attractive area of Minneapolis near the Minnehaha parkway. Good product ranges as well. From GW to a huge selection of AT-43 and boardgames, a decent selection of FOW and PP games.
You have to pay these gents a visit.

Quick update...
Phoenix Games is NOT CLOSED! He just moved. I stopped by the new store Friday at 18285 Minnetonka Blvd in Deephaven, MN. The owner seemed like a pretty nice guy and he said he moved locations for cheaper rent and to increase focus on online sales. Everything in the store is 20-30% off at all times (GW is 20% off in store). He has a couple of tables and a basement gaming area I didn't get to check out.

Yeah he moved. Sadly, Deephaven is a bit out of the way to make it there. Great guy though, ya gotta love Neil. Tower is a ten minute drive for me, Phoenix is a 30-40 min drive for me. Good deals for sure, but since I live in the same state, sales tax takes effect and bits into those great savings. I think I'll stick with the local guy who is interested in the frontage for gaming, as opposed to supporting the guy who is directing his energies to online sales. But for anyone not in MN, Phoenix games is definitely worth a look. The option of up to 40% discounts on everything besides GW is huge. If you buy alot of stuff and have no local place to buy from (as I used to when I lived in Montana) you'll be hard pressed to find better deals. www.phoenixgamesonline.com/index.html

Tower was great for gaming. The Source is awesome for just finding anything or any system. The Source had comics too.

the lake st. store is closed? Man, that's where I got my copy of Civilization (the AH board game) like... 20 years ago? Sad that you have to drive all the way out to Minnetonka now. Can't see how rent there is going to be any cheaper...
Anyways, I know it's not glamorous, but there's a store chain called Air Traffic Kites and Games that has mall locations around the twin cities. I used to play 40k on thursdays at the location in Burnsville, but the one in the eden prairie mall is closer, I think.
It's no fancier, GW-dedicated, or soulful than your average Games by James, but at least they probably have a 40k night.

That's good to know, I work in Eden Prairie now and would like to get a few games in to test some new stuff. Is it casual gaming or people running harder lists? Just curious since I don't wanna show up and be that guy

I played at the Burnsville location, and that was 3 years ago, but when I was there, it was predominantly comprised of teenagers and south-suburbs college kids (who like went to Rasmussen, or wherever).
I did play a game against Hellfury once, though, and I occasionally saw some older people.
A game store can change a LOT in 3 years, though, so you'd have to show up to see.

Just to comment more on Ailaros, the Burnville store no longer has a 40k night for about a year now because of the last tournament they held 4 guys stole about $400 worth of GW products but there is a store called Misty Mountains in Burnsville that has a 40k night every Thursday from 5 - 10

There is also Armored Ogre Games in Inver Grove Heights.
Compared to the other stores, it is TINY. They can get 3 tables in, with a max of 4 if they really get to moving some stuff out of the way.
Tuesday is Warhammer 40k night, starts at 2pm, but people don't really get their till 5ish.
Weekends are also "open" gaming, with at least a table of 40k going.
Only problem is don't expect people to have a list ready to go. A lot of the players are new at the game, and don't have the concept of having a list ready to go. The experienced players can probably match about any amount of points you bring in though. As for buying stuff, the owner doesn't give a discount (I think, I never pay attention, pretty much just hand him my paycheck). And His selection isn't as varied as the other stores.

There is a pretty strong club at Saint Thomas but the actual store scene seems pretty weak.
Only place that I know of that does regular good tournaments is Misty Mountain in Burnsville (including one this weekend).
How often does The Source host stuff?

Awesome catch buddy! I didn't even know about it and now I might be able to hit 2 tournies this month! I'm stoked now. Just moved up here and have been a bit bummed since I don't know the local scene and where the tournies are at
I'm gonna be hitting up the tourney at Tower Games at the end of the month as well.
Oh and if anyone is up for a game let me know. I normally get off work around 6pm but if it's not to far I can head out for a game.

Outside of Adeptus Minneapolis, which runs out of Tower Games...there are several mini-clubs out there that are basically groups of friends that play (3 or 4 depending on the week). I am a part of one such group. There are definitely players in the area.
I live in Shakopee, but generally do my gaming at Misty Mountain Games (MMG) if its not at my place. I've played at all of the stores, and prefer MMG, but that's just me. Misty puts on frequent tournaments and has more than adequate space for gaming. The Thursday nights are the "official" gaming nights, but Cedan (the store manager) has previously told me that he's fine with players rolling in anytime to play if there is space to do so (frequent M:TG tournaments hosted here, so there are sometimes HUNDREDS of people in the store).
I'm usually up for a game if you wish, provided I have the night free. Just toss me an email (not a PM...I don't frequent these boards), let me know who you are, and I might be able to arrange a game depending on work schedules. Otherwise, there is a good chance you'll see me there on Wednesdays (Malifaux), Thursdays (40k), or Saturdays (tournament days) anyway.

I'll be in Saint Paul this weekend at the Holiday inn. I'm looking for a game Friday night if anyone has some free time. Con of the North is going on there but there will be tables for pickup games. I'm bringing terrain also. I'm free around 8ish for 1850point 40k and beers.

So are there any groups on fridays and saturdays at source or airtraffic in roseville? Or tower / universe games? Mon - thurs doesn't work for me, but it seems that everything happens on tuesdays..
I've got a DG army @ 1500pts that I want to get better with, and some IG that are looking for opponents.
Is there any apoc scene in the twin cities? These games are the most fun for me.

Hulk you live in Eden Prairie? Thats pretty sweet im up in Plymouth myself. Just moved here due to getting a job. I game at a store called Armored Ogre Games in Inver Grove Heights. It's a smaller store with a smaller gathering of people but we have been getting in some great 40k games there. We also play MTG there 2-3 times per week.
Maybe one of these Fridays or Sundays we could meet up for a game? I have 3 people i know that would show up with me although we're all casual players not the hardcore type. I've just never felt the alure of 40k in a tournament setting.

You can PM me the answer, but who are you at AOG? I have been going there for about a year now, and try to show up on weekends and Tuesday nights. I only know of one BA player, but your sig said 3rd edition and he is new. I am the guy who is constantly reorganized the warhammer stuff so it all faces the same way.

I thought I'd just throw in that I also play at AOG on Tuesdays. Decent place to play but if you get there after 5 you might not have a place to play. Everyone is quite friendly though and the games are quite fun. Owner is pretty easy going and if he doesn't have it in stock he does orders Tuesday and they come in Friday, not to bad.
I'm easy to spot, Eldar with a kid in tow. I'm also looking for more players for games hosted at my house. I do have 3 tables and terrain to go with them. We normally play Saturday evening once a month but I'm open to more often. Feel free to PM me.
Very interested in APOC games or a campaign if anyone is doing such a thing.

That is true, AOG fills up VERY fast on 40k nights. Sunday nights are not a bad night for playing, just the back table gets taken up by the deathwatch/dark heresy group that plays.
