They're also doing some great plywood towers due out Nov 1

I see both products in my future.  Can anyone say anything about the company's products and service?

I wouldn't use the plywood towers extensively, maybe just a piece or two. For pre-made
terrain, there's not a lot of detail. I'll probably get a stack of that tower with the hole down
the middle and see if detailing it is an issue.

I've used Litko plywood bases for years now for 15mm and 1/2400 naval. I also have a few of their 28mm buildings and various tokens. While I think they make great bases I'm afraid their plastic tokens are just uninspired, and of lower quality, compared to GF9 stuff. The buildings get the job done but are basically just wood boxes. If you want a basic structure to work from they are good but for a complete building I think they just pale compared to other stuff out there (including the great new plastic GW building sets).

I am still a huge Space Hulk fan but the corridor set does not interest me at all. Again it is just sections of plywood you have to paint yourself and I don't think the hook connector is very well done either. I really don't understand the purpose of this set as you can do as good a job with a number of your own materials for far less. If the things came painted or something that would be different but they don't. You can find the original 40K corridor sets on the Web as PDFs (GW even has some in larger scales on their site somewhere) and print them out on a color laser and glue them down to something and get a setup that looks better than the Litko set for almost no money.

The new towers are interesting but again will have zero detail so it just depends what you want.

By the way, if it is corridors you want you might want to take a look at the GW Manufactorum set. If you have not seen the sprues it is basically a bunch of 2"x4" wall sections that look very Space Hulkish. I bought a handful of boxes to make the walls for the AT-43 room map and realized it would be great for SH. It is easy to make the sets up in basically long wall and 'L' sections that you can mix and match to create various corridor and room layouts and with a few more sets you can make multi-level structures and more. I think three or four boxes gave me all I needed for the AT-43 map. It has worked great for AT-43 and we're getting ready to do a WH40K based SH scenario with a similar setup (and we're also toying with the same idea for a Kill Team scenario). If anyone has not seen the building sets in person I would encourage you to check them out. They really are one of the better products GW has made and if you get them from a discount store, like The Warstore, they are a reasonable deal as well.

I've always wanted to do a 3D space hulk board maybe combine the two sets... if only it had detail.

The manufactorum option you'd be doing $25 a room and alittle bit more.

It amuses me that more and more companies are captializing on GW's lack of initiative or support of its diefferent production lines. We've already seen plywood drop pods. Now plywood space hulk and necromunda.

<<<The manufactorum option you'd be doing $25 a room and alittle bit more.>>>

You get 10 wall sections (~20") plus 4 half walls (destroyed sections, ~8") and about 14" worth of catwalk in each set. When using it though I think you want to stop thinking Space Hulk layout terms with rooms and corridors and think more of a normal floor plan layout which allows you to actually get more play area with less. In other words, instead of two walls forming a corridor into a room with four walls you think of two walls that form a corridor plus the walls of adjacent rooms and/or corridors. You can thus form a 'maze' or spaces with less bits than you might think. But yes it takes a number of boxes.

You wouldn't want to combine the Litko and the Manufactorum systems because you'd end up with corridors that were too narrow for their height. Although, I suspect you could lay the Manufactourm wall sections down on their sides and it would still work. This would effectively double the amount of walls you get with each set and allow for tighter corridors.

What we liked about using the more free form 'Space Hulk' layouts is that it allows for Dreadnaughts and other larger minis if you want.

I've been looking at those Litko sets, and they do interest me.

Anyone ever play Zombies!!! ?

In that game, you alternate placing the town tiles until you randomize the board.

So I was thinking about getting one or two Litko sets, and playing smaller combat patrol games on it. But instead of setting out the Litko stuff ahead of time, coming up with a system where the players alternate laying and placing tiles, and then start off the game.

And the towers would fit in well with my Imex stuff that I use for Necromunda...

I've been thinking that the Imex chemical plant is the way to go to detail the towers or tiles.

I would like to know if the tiles hooks work or not though. Otherwise I might be better with homemake stuff.

I can't wait till the catwalks and towers come out. I think they will be great for necromunda.

The really odd thing about the litko space corridor set I hadnt noticed until now is the price.

When it was introduced earlier this year, both the master set and the expansion was offered at $100. This was a sale price before it got bumped up to $150 for both.

Now it is less than $75 for both. Not a bad deal. I may pick some up now for that price.

I know what you mean, but you're still working with a perimeter even using each as a free standing wall versus a compartmentalized arrangment you only get 28" of wall, if you use them the way you mean it can represent upto 46" of wall. Unless you plan on doing a layout more like CoD the largest arrangement with a single box is 7x7 square. I'm not saying it wouldn't work I just think it could get costly alot faster than other alternatives.

To clarify I meant a combination of Litko's two systems... mostly thinking of doors and the grided floor combined with the towers. The space hulk 1st ed rulebooks had all the pictures of multifloor hulks, that what I want to build.

Space Hulk + Dreadnaught = Space Crusade

I didn't like that game too much. Space Hulk had more atmosphere. Now if you're building it for a 40k game thats a different story.

There was an announcement from Litko in the last week on TMP that they were dropping their prices.
