Subject: Help with my BT army...

Implacable Black Templar Initiate

Well, im wanting some help with my BT lists. Ive been building the army since the new BT codex came out, with some of my old space marines. But I'm looking for some tips as far as general tactics go. I have almost every unit possible to use in a BT army, i have 8500 points of them if i try. Just looking for some tactics and what to take in 1000, 1500, 1850, 2000, and 2500 point lists. Thanks in advance. -HotSoup

Check out the army list section in here.
There have been a lot of lists posted lately containing lots of useful advice.
Alternatively you could wait for CoK to produce his BT tactica.

I use a Mech force with 2 razorbacks,3 rinos and a Std land raider. Add speeders or assault squads to taste. I will post a more complete list later.

Okay heres my list I will be running next month. Hq Marshall with plas pistol ( M.crafted) and power weapon @ 125 pts. Emp champ @ 140 pts. vow is the "Accept any challange." Troops 6 man squad with melta and lascannon. Razorback @ 191 pts 6 man squad with melta and lascannon. Razorback with TL-Las . @ 211 pts. 8 man squad with plas/ plas in a rino with EA and Smoke . @ 212 pts ( marshall rides here) 8 man squad with melta/ P. fist in a rino with EA and Smoke @ 211 pts 10 man squad with flamer/P. fist in a rino with Ea and Smoke @ 239 pts 9 man squad with melta/ P.fist. They ride in the Land raider and the EC joins this squad. @ 169 pts Fast attack 10 man squad of assault marines with 2 plas pistols and P.fist.@ 245 pts Heavy support Land raider with EA or smoke @ 255 /253 points total is @ 2000 points I plan on shooting for my first turn and then move up the feild. If I don't have any good shots in the first turn then I will move up and pop smoke. Next turn I deploy and then use the rinos as cover. the Razor squads are my objective grabbers. The marshall is in for his leadership and for counter assault. I would much rather for him to shoot than assault. First list I am trying with out a chappy in the mix. I hope this helps.

I'd like to point out first that your Emp Champion can't join a unit, he's always an ind character. Second, there isn't a bad balance of shooting and CC, but I'd like to see more emphasis on the use of the Rightous zeal move and CC, while making sure fire support comes in the form of Preds or vindicators. I mean you are taking Accept any challenge right?

You are incorrect. An Emperor's Champion may not purchase a retinue, but he still may join a unit just as any independant character can.

Don't try to argue with the necromancer, you never know what kind of foul dark magics he might cast on you.

This list seems like it would be stronger as a codex/traits marine list... BT should play to their strengths: Big squads and/or lots of LRCs.

Almost *any* recent SM variant list ( BA, BT, DA, Chaos) is stronger as a Codex Traits list. That is why Codex SM is going to regain Combat Squads but lose Traits in the revamp.

Hey, its been a while since I saw that list.
Let me up date it for you.
Marshall gets a combat sheild.
6 man troop trades the las-cannon for a MM.
Both razors get EA and SM.
8 man plas/plas squad goes to 6 man.
8 man squad withpf/mg get 2 neos to train.
The Landraider is traded in for a LRC.
Marshall joins the emp.champs squad in the LRC.
Those are some basic changes to that list.
I have some nastier list in mind.
As soon as I work them out I might post them here or B&C.
