This is my first post in the modelling forum so I'll waste no time and get right to it: Have any of you, that have built a leman russ noticed that there is no hull mounted heavy bolter option?

If you have converted one up what did you use (and do you have pictures)?  I'm thinking about using the Cadian Heavy Weapons Heavy Bolter, much like on the GW Chimera conversion, but need to somehow, mount it to the hull mount of the leman russ.

Any ideas or advice?

There used to be a hull-mounted metal heavy bolter bit that was made for the Leman Russ Exterminator kit.

I have no idea if you can still find it through GW's store (especially since the bits ordering service is going sometime), but that would be a good place to start.

Otherwise, you can just use a HBolter from an unused side sponson (if you have any Russes without HB sponsons). It's not a perfect fit, but you can make it work with a little elbow grease.

I think in this picture I got lazy and just sawed off the Heavy Bolter from a side sponson wheel, sawed off the end of the Hull-mounted Lascannon and just glued the HBolter to the stump of the Lascannon:

Cool beans yakface, thank you for the info regarding the bits.  I think I might try to convert the lascannon up.  I will post some pics when I figure out how to get my camera running since it's being wonky

Sorry about the ligjht. This is my kitchen table not the games room. I don't remember where the heavy bolter is from. It is probably a plastic Cadian HW sprue. I bought the tank like this from a guy at the local club. Well actually I didn't buy the tank as such, I bought him lunch so he gave me the tank in lieu of payment. Since I would have spent the lunch money on a tank anyway...

It's really an easy mod.

I'd suggest using a sponson Bolter, but any one would work, I think. Just saw off the Lascannon, saw off the bolter, and glue them together.

If the sizes don't match up (and they probably won't), then put a rectangle of sheet styrene over the hole where you cut off the Lascannon, let the glue dry. Then trim the excess styrene off, to make a nice flat area to glue your Bolter on.

Done.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I like to replace the lascannon (Demolisher mount) and heavy bolters anyway. They are all way too big.

I am still looking for a good replacement for the battlecannon, its twice the calibre of the Baneblade gun.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The method of taking a sponson HB and turning into a hull one by cutting the Lascannon off works quite well. I've got one Russ that I did that with. For the others I eventually just ordered the Hull HB metal bit that I used on my Exterminators, as it was easier, but the effect is the same and it looks fine.

I just chopped off the lascannon and stuck on a spare sponson HB.  Quick and easy and doesn't look too bad.

Yup, the sponson HB to lascannon base is the quickest and easiest and fits well. I've also seen a decent one done with the heavy weapon team HB mounted in the gap with a plasticard cover (it does not turn, just aimed forward) that looked alright also, but mounting it to the lascannon base makes it stick out way too far since the dimensions are different than the sposon ones.

Also, you could chop off just the front of the heavy bolter of your choice and mount that on the drum. It'd not look as unwieldy, would probably not snag as easily as a protruding gun might, and would be true to real life, where tank hull MGs usually have only their barrels extending from the mount, and are typically not very long (in some cases the barrel is flush with the mantlet or cupola).

The supply does not get to make the demands.
