The concept is that the orks had the same idea that I did. Use the buggy to block LoS/numbers.
If I were to do the actual model for this, I'd just attach a gigantic platicard sheet the the buggy with a buggy shape cut out. Then paint freehand as best I can (Not great, but not awful; which is good cause then it'll look like orks painted it) a landscape.
The question is do you think people will laugh, or roll their eyes and mark down my sportsmanship score. Is it unsportsmanlike-like? What would you do if I used this against you?
Btw, the buggy is not mine. It was just the first profile buggy that came up in a google search.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Would it be better if the sheet didn't go past the 'natural' edges of the vehicle? I mean, of course it would be better, but would it be acceptable? What if I modeled it so that orks were actually holding the sheet? In other words, what would it take to make this viable?

Maybe the picture makes this clearer. I'm a twork, however, and your picture hosting service is blocked by our servers, so I can't see it.
I just don't understand.
You want to cut out a buggy shaped piece of plasticard & attach it to the side of your buggy? Is that what I'm reading?
Or did you want to attach a LARGER piece of plasticard to it?
If it's the first one, then it just doesn't matter. Whether or not you can see through the buggy (say, under the wheels or through the it's cab/cockpit) doesn't matter. It automatically blocks LOS of an area = to it's profile (assuming you have it sideways). The plasticard wall would be superfluous, in that case.
If you're wanting to drag a plasticard wall behind you or something, or make your profile larger than it should be, then you need to stop trying to "test" the limits of the rules.

You are asking, so that means you aren't sure.
Save yourself some time and having to find new opponents (when your current opponents refuse to play against you).
Surely 40k isn't so lame that it needs you to have huge LOS blocking vehicles to protect your army....

I think that plenty of players would laugh when you brought it out; however, if the model proves frustrating in game, I think a big chunk of the losers and a smaller chunk of the winners would ding you.
The idea is hilarious.

It's an amusing idea that should be saved for games that are just for amusement. In a tourney, a couple of initial laughs aren't going to stop your opponent from getting annoyed at the obvious advantage you'd be getting. Plus, there's the whole banner issue.

Agreed. It's an amusing conversion that would get a few laughs if not used to gain advantage, but would rapidly annoy if you actually tried to use it to block LOS and gain a game advantage.
Given the section in the rulebook about superfluous bits like banners not counting for drawing LOS to the model, you're also really on thin ice as far as rules legality and legitimacy are concerned.

So what about this?:
At my LGS we play with "hard magic cylander" LoS. It's much easier to play if theres no debating over what can see over what and getting your face on the board. It also eschews scetchy modeling (see above ). So, this doesn't matter for most of my games, but I'm still concerned with tournies-- namely GTs.
As far as the banner thing goes. If I use foamcore instead of plasticard, it will be much more of a wall, and less of a sheet.

If you play full Magic Cylinder at your local store, it should be no problem at all there.
That said, in the the national/regional events I've played, I've found that Friendly Model's Eye View and Magic Cylinder Lite are much more common, and this kind of conversion would be asking for trouble. I'd make it removable if you intend to play at GTs.

Yeah, I give up. I don't need to abuse the rules to win anyway . I'm keeping the idea though-- I'll just say they don't count for LoS purposes.
People don't like it when a kid beats them in the first place. Let alone if I'm useing questionable models. It's kinda funny, people always seem to think "easy win" when they see a 17 year old kid at a GT. I know I do. The only reason I can go to out of state GTs is 'cause my dad is into the hobby as well, and he lives in a different state then I do. So not only do we have to fly to see each other anyway, but he likes playing the GTs as much as I do. To boot, his wife loves Vegas and Chicago, so shes perfectly happy to come along and sight-see. Wow, that got off-topic...

Okay seriously: I'd suggest playing some test games using the model's eye view LOS style in perparation for your tournie games. You really should be able to devise strategies that don't revolve around hiding vehicles behind each other (it can be done).

That's pretty awesome.
The paper cylinder, that is.
If you really want your buggies to block more LOS, go convert a bunch of 1/35 scale armored cars and the like. Just be prepared to deal with the consequences. Like Whitescar owning you in the parking lot.
If you're really smitten with the idea as a hobby project, do one for kicks, as a centerpiece. Frankly, it's a lot like someone's rather famous kommandos from YEARS ago that had them in 'camouflage' (a pile of tires, a sign painted to look like a marine, a bush, etc.)
