Howdy!
Thought that since I'd taken the
January Monthly Vows challenge, I sort of owed to the community to post those projects that I've knocked off from that checklist.
First off: my squad of four ogre bulls with ironfists.
Now, I can hear what you're saying right now. "But razormage," you say, "Those aren't ogres at all! In fact, they look like werewolves! Hey, I don't even think those are Games Workshop models! What on earth are you doing, building an army of models you'll never be able to use?"
Well, it happens that in my area (San Antonio, TX), there aren't any Games Workshop stores within a three-hour drive. The only tournaments on the local scene are independent ones (such as the Alamo
GT), and they usually allow models of all makes and manufacturers, as long as it's obvious what they are. That said, I have always loved Rackham's wolves, and have always wanted to build an army of them. It wasn't until the OK list came out that one was suitable, and now, several years later, I've finally gotten around to them!
"Razormage," I hear you say now, "You're blathering. Put up more pictures and move on, you're making me waste time reading your drivel."
Same wolves, but from the back. I thought this worth posting because the backs of the models are much less armoured, so it's easier to see the colour and shading of the skin.
Backside again, but a little better focused, and straight-on.
Here's the musician/bellower/howler for the unit. I loved the idea of adapting Bellowers for this list, as it's very easy to think of werewolves howling to make formation changes or just to intimidate the enemy. Nice little bit of synergy, there!
Here's the Howler again, from a different angle. It's at this point that I realized that I never got around to painting their eyes. Whoops...
Why so many pictures of the Howler? Well, aside from liking the pose, it's really the only character in this squad.
The unit's left flank, from a human-sized model's eye view. I love how easily the Rackham models allow themselves to show movement.
The unit's right flank, from the same human's-eye-view. I've just noticed that the Howler came unglued at the waist and has pivoted on his pin a bit. That gap in his right side has since been fixed, but I've already taken down my lighting rig. When I get the army based, I'll go back and take some more of him, to show the fix.
Comments/critiques/questions are always welcome! These models seem really neat to me, and show me just how far I've come since I started this hobby.
