Pretty simple conversion. I never understood why the Steel Legion, ork killers almost as much as Valhallans, do not have a flamer model. So I have to make my own. Basic, I know, just a Cadian promethium tank strapped on the back of this model. The model was an extra that I had been fooling around with coat colorschemes so it's pretty thick now, and I'd hacked some things off too, so I plugged a brass rod in the lasgun, hacked up the las, still need a fuel line (GS) and details will be added (GS). Any suggestions?

One done! Going to make a second, maybe a third.

Nice work, I especially like the WW2 style extended flamer barrel. I didn't understand either why the Steel Legion didn't have a flamer model. I ended up using a sergeant and swapping the pistol for one of the old school hand flamers.

In regards to using GS for the hose, if you have an old pair of walkman headphones (the skinny ear bud kind) I've had a lot of luck using the plastic wire from those. Just cut to length, pull out the wire inside and use paper clips to pin the ends in to the model.

I'd bring it in a bit, extended still, but probably brought in about 1/4 the length.

Just some quick research pictures for you to work from!

Every metal range of IG lacks one special weapon. Be thankful ASL have Plasma and Melta. But yeah, losing GL would be better.

Actually, the Cadians have every weapon and the Catachans are missing the grenade launcher. The launcher is pretty useless in my opinion, it has that plast template but it's pretty weak, though Guard infantry don't get the chance to do much close up anti-tanking, so the melta isn't high up their either. But the flamer and the plasma gun are pretty much necessary pieces of equipment. I do hope they make Steel Legion in plastics soon, and include ALL the weapons in the kit. The Cadians were a big let down for me, I was hoping they would be a bit more poseable. As they are, they're pretty generic.

So I had this bright idea on how to cover up the area where I had to hack the sleeping roll out on the back with a large pouch. In a stroke of intuition I carved a rouch shape of a pouch in styrofoam. Then I made some molten wax but melting a candle under a hot light. When I dunked the styro foam in the wax, to put a coat on that I could carve to detail, the foam just melted and made a weird looking thing. Who knew?!

why not just cut up a cadian flamer and attach it to the Steel Legion guy. That way you'd have a more uniform looking flamer. Cause if you play with people you don't know they might not recognize it.

Yeah, the barrel from the Cadian flamer would help not only make it more obvious, but look better.Real-scale nozzles wouldn't look very good from 4 feet away at 28mm.

Good work on the conversion so far, though.

Have you tried cutting pewter? It's not really easy, and besides, I don't like the Cadian flamers, nor the old school ones. I think the giant FUEL tanks on his back will make him stand out though. The Cadians flamers look silly, oversized, and overly complex. If someone misses the flamer, that's to my advantage, I'm not trying to disguise the flamer or intentionally trying to sneak it in, but if they don't recognise the threat, there isn't anything I can do about that.

Dremel my brother. Its the best possible investment if you like converting.

The best.

Yes, I use one quite often, but why dremel and get a basic, sorta lame, conversion, when you can use your imagination and get an original looking trooper.

I was talking about cutting up the flamer from a plastic Cadian. Lots of folks use the backpacks for conversions, so the nozzle bitz are easy to get ahold of.

To each their own, though.

Nice - the shortened version looks good. I think drilling out a few holes in the nozzle would make it look really sharp and give it a little more detail, but it looks good as it is.

Unfortunately, I made the silly decision to make the nozzle out of a q-tip shaft. The soft, papery material works great when you're boring it out along the length, but if you try to drill into it from any other angle it tears up and falls apart. I just got some styrene tubing of assorted lengths, which should work great.
