I really just can't shake the thought that the orc looks just like that "Help I'm stuck in a wind tunnel" Assault Marine McVey sculpted back in the day... anybody remember that one? I'll try to scrounge up a pic. As for the idea of a WoW miniature game, that's...just...wrong. That's basically the TT gaming equivalent of reality tv. Blegh.


(I'm really trying not to geek out here and say that a warrior in teir 1 armor with a weapon from Blackwing Lair wouldn't stand a chance nowadays... )

those models look terrible. even if i still played wow and they gave them to me as a gift, I would turn around and hand them to someone else.. that's just drivell right there.

Wow those are really bad. Not impressed at all. Probably sell real well though. Shame really.

I'm pretty sure the game will be nothing like 40k or WHFB. From the sounds of it, its going to be a skirmish game like the Starwars minis or D&D minis game. Who knows maybe they are going to go in a different direction with the game, but I have no idea what that would be. Any guesses?

As far as the pre-painted minis go. They look better than the D&D mini's that are out and are pretty true to WoW's style so I think they are decent. But if your tastes are for the style used in 40k and such, then yeah you won't like 'em. From the comments here it sounds like some of you were hoping to use these minis for conversions or something. If thats your idea then yeah I'd agree these models will be fugly for that purpose.

I prepose we destroy all Blizzard and Upper Deck HQ's. Upper Deck wont be too hard, but Blizzard HQ.... Theres the private forces and the fantard militias to deal with. And I wouldnt drop pod any number of Marines into that hell-hole. Im thinking Vortex Missles or an Imperitor titan assault is the best way to go.

This could be desastorous if Blizzard, say, gives online rewards for purchase of miniatures. This could be a dark age indeed. WE MUST FIGHT! BURN MAIM KILL!

And before people start making fun of Mike McVey, sure, he sculpts like crap, but I fondly remember seeing his stuff (dioramas and painting articles) on WD and it was pure gold, I tell ya.

Blizzard must not be touched. Starcraft 2 is coming. Diablo 3 will probably be coming when the Internet dies and they can't make any more money from that zombie-making beast that is WoW (probably all the junkies will die from withdrawal pain, hopefully before they destroy Blizzard HQ in anger).

True story. When the WoW CCG came out at my LGS there was a guy just buying box after box so he could get the unique in-game items. Sucked because some of us actually enjoyed the game and wanted to get cards to play.

From what I remember, all he did was paint them. his sculpting has always been suspect, even when he worked for GW. his paiting was cutting edge 20 years ago, unless he has updated his style, even his painting would be suspect these days. (however, I will be honest I have not seen or am not aware that I have seen any of his recent stuff)

I wasn't so much poking fun as just drawing a link to visual similarity. But you make a very valid point, hundreds of years ago when White Dwarf was actually worth paying for McVey's articles were absolutely golden. One that immediately comes to mind is his diorama featuring a chaplain on a bike assaulting an eldar exodite, that thing was pages long, with beautiful WIP shots, detailed greenstuff lessons, even cues on how to properly frame a diorama on a scenic base. Credit where credit is due of course, he was (and still is) one of the most talented painters/modelers in the hobby. The fact that pieces he did 15+ years ago still stand up on their own says enough, in my opinion.

But yeah, seeing WoW making a miniature game is just disheartening. Some cat at Blizzard just got out of the Scrooge McDuck money swimming room and thought "You know, there's got to be a way we can make even more money....somehow..."

I think these look pretty decent, especially for prepaints. I knew this was just a matter of time, but I was hoping for metal minis. Oh well.

Did you see that list of sculptors? These are going to look nice, and they will sell the pants out of them.

I'll be buying some, I can tell you that. The Draenei paladin guy is great.
